Default Auto Start Stop

Does anyone use this feature either in the city on on the highway or both?

If so do your think it puts additional stresses on the battery and starter motor vs the tiny amount of gas you will save?

as soon as I start the car it goes in sport mode... that solves that. If I need to be quiet I'll put it back to D but I'll deactivate it, always. I don't trust it not putting strain on starter, plugs, etc.

I second the switch to sport mode upon start.

I will never be convinced that the repeated stop/start cycles don't affect component longevity.

Stop/start works great on hybrids, they have a more robust electrical component system.

Used it for about 1.5 years pretty much consistently. One day I turned off the car to get gas, car never turned over. Battery was dead and they had to replace the alternator. I don't know if *** had anything to do with it, but never used it again.

Wow, that sucks!

I guess its only common sense that the more you use the starter the more wear and stress you are putting on it and the battery.

Maybe Porsche just put these systems in to make their emissions data look better...

Hate it. Always switched off when I remember (or when the car shuts down the first time). No way it does not wear batteries and starter motors. On short trips there is no way the current drain from repeated starts will be replenished by the charging system, hence it will kill the battery. Am planning on installing the memory module from design9 so I don't have to disable this every time I start the car. Sad compromise by Porsche to the EPA Gods and the Nanny State.

Ditto.

Every. Single. Time.

I would be very surprised if it had any negative impact on those very durable components. However, mine is permanently turned off as I find it very annoying.

How did you permanently turn it off?

I might use it as my "eco-mode" on the highway, but never during regular driving. I don't need the additional wear and tear on the starter.

I turn the menettino to Sport immediately upon start up. Every time. I can’t see how auto start stop can’t be hard on the car in way or another. Battery. Starter, my mental sanity.

So do I...I thought you had figured something out that was truly permanent where as is it is off when one starts the car. Cobb, are you listening?! Might be a nice feature for your next update (along with starting in the same mode as what was on when the car was turned off).

I pressed the button to turn it off. It stays off, might have changed in 991.2.
