Default 991 common problems and failures. Reference guide.

While I believe the at there also should be a separate, dedicated thread for the 991.1 and that they both should be stickied, I’d like to start a reference guide to gather all of this information in one place.

I propose FACTS only. Leave the potinions out and if you feel compelled to start a conversation, please start a dedicated thread for it.

Since the forum allows for it, I suggest that we also make use of the SUBJECT field in the the reply form, as to better identify the issue being reported.

{edit} Please also start your post with Year-Model-Trim of you car.

As a new 991.2 owner, I will followup shortly with the issues into which I’ve run and will post a dedicated reply for each, not a list in a single reply.

I’m hoping for a constructive collaboration from most of you.

Cheers
Oli

Known water pump failure is the only thing I experienced so far.

Default Rear shock top mounts.

Edit: 2017 C2S with RAS

At 55,000 km, my rear shock top mounts were replaced under warranty.

The tech said that only one was broken but Porsche imposes that they be replaced in pairs, at least under warranty.

It would be beneficial if all problem reports included model, (i.e. C4S, for example), model year, mileage at problem onset, and problem resolution.

2017 C2 intermittent Engine fan failure alarm. 33k miles. But only came on right after mechanic installed BMC air filter. Also doesn't seem to come on with spoiler up.
Still under factory warranty but still seeing if it reappears before acting on it. No messages left in PCM window after alarm comes in and clears. Also ran a track day and engine was perfect all day. Kept an eye on temps. Thinking it's some sort of ghost in the machine. lol

I've identified this as a useful thread, and sticky candidate, in keeping with the ongoing discussion on 991 stickies at the link below. Please carry on adding more common 991 problems and their solutions so we can build this thread further.

https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1271...10-2021-a.html

In particular, please would all (including the OP, @ZerOG ) note: the thread title has been emended slightly to remove the ".2" distinction. I'd like to try and use this thread to build the "common problems" list (at least for the time being) for 991's. We'll give this a try for a few months and re-evalute if any further changes (like, separate .1 and .2 threads, but I'm not really convinced) are needed.

Thanks!

Default 2017 (.2) Carrera Base - Tank A/S Faulty

I'll start to add mine:

I have a 2017 (.2) Carrera Base purchased CPO the summer of 2019 from Porsche South Shore, Freeport NY.

June 2019, 20,412 miles: I got a check engine light that appeared under light acceleration in 7th passing a semi on a freeway on our return trip from NY to Tampa after buying the car. The fault cleared after our trip. The fault reappeared two weeks later, while I was driving to work, again, in 7th, under light acceleration.

Took it in, and the Dealer diagnosed the issue as faulty tank vent sensor. It was replaced under warranty, N/C. Part was 9A2-110-095-01 AS TANK VENTILATION (Reeves Porsche Tampa).
