I've got one coming. I figure I can probably use it elsewhere, worst case:

Very similar to one I bought but yours looks little fancier. Mine just has a couple ***** on it. I bought if for a house I flipped and used it there and in my car so far. I am sure one day it will get a 3rd use. Nice tool to have though either way. I am sure you will find another use for it at some point. Cabin filters in car are really easy to change too. Even if the filters were not in there when they put that scent in, they have been in since the scent was there meaning it has likely settled into the filter as air recirculates. Thinking about it.. you should only need to change the one in passenger footwell.

One local BMW dealer advertised that due to COVID they were disinfecting all car interiors before and after service. I bet they bombed it with something.

Fabrese has an air freshener that kills any smell. Spray it on any odor and it is gone.

Yep - this was their explanation, it seems. It was something along the lines of "due to the situation, we ......."

Of course I wasn't told ahead of time that they would be introducing a "smell". I could have waited for the panic to subside and this to not be necessary.

Toss a few of these in the car.

I had this happen with a fairly new BMW a couple years ago. I brought the car in to have the exterior ceramic coated. As a "courtesy", they cleaned the interior with a very very fragrant cleaner/air freshener. I put those bags in. Aired the car out a lot. Wiped the surfaces I could. etc. Basically instead of smelling like leather the car smelled like cheap perfume. It would cling to my clothes. People at the office noticed too.

put some pieces of charcoal in a bowl and place in car when not in use. Charcoal absorbs smells.

Alright - I just KNEW that it would only be a matter of time before someone told me a to make a "volcano" in my car.

I should get the ozone machine tomorrow and will report back!

I don’t have a solution, but this thread did remind me of Season 4 Episode 21 of Seinfeld.

Good luck to the OP, and hope your end result is not Jerry’s.

Nope. I didn't have to try to sell it to a used car lot where the guy RAN from it. But this definitely reminded me of it that episode!

Got the ozone machine today and just to be safe, only ran it for 30 mins at minimum ozone output, engine running, on recirc, half A/C on and half off. Odor 90% gone. I might give it another hit in the next few days.

BTW, read up on ozone. You have to be careful with it because it's not good for you. Do the treatment and then let things air out for an hour or so, to let the ozone drift away or at least revert back to oxygen, and all good. There is a lot of online information about this sort of solution.

But it works!

Here is the one I used. It is very compact but powerful with a lot of settings.
