Default Garage ramp recommendation

For those of you who DIY for oil changes and other maintenance on your 991s, any recommendations for garage ramps? TIA

Race Ramps seem to be the standard. Friend used Rhino Ramps years ago.

Otherwise, I would look at Quick Jacks or Jack Point Jack Stands.

I'm still trying to figure out which one I want to purchase and how comfortable I actually feel getting under a car with any of the options, as a very risk adverse person. Maybe the combination of Quick Jacks or Jack Point Jack Stands with Race Ramps as a backup would be best.

I’ve 4x Race Ramps and they are perfect for oil changes. Foolproof and take up very little storage space. Floor jack for wheel changes.

Agree with the safety concern. I will check out Race Ramps. Rhino has some scary reviews on Amazon suggesting risk of collapse.

I have used Quick Jacks with both my 981 and 991.2. Great product, and perfect for Oil Changes, Brakes, Tranny Fluid Changes, etc... Quick Jacks have a safety Locking Bar so the hydraulics are not holding up the car. If I plan on getting under the car, I also put my Race Ramp Wheel Cribs in place for added piece of mind.

I used to have Race Ramps but I quit using them when I installed Swisstrax flooring - I'm told it's not recommended to use Race Ramps on smooth surfaces. Now I'm using two Jack Point stands and two hydraulic jacks. I leave the jacks in place under the Jack Points because I'm super paranoid.

EDIT: I'm now seeing on their website that the ramps can be used on smooth surfaces. What I saw in the past might've been on a resellers website.

If I was to do it all over I would get the Quick Jacks. But since I have two floor jacks and 6 stands I will make do with what I have. Search youtube on how to place a 991 on jack stands. It's very easy to do.

I have quick jacks. I built a wooden dolly and they on that under floating cabinets. Super easy to maneuver. They were $1000 from Costco at least last year. They can be used parallel to the car and also perpendicular. I ended up using a hockey puck on the Quick Jack and a delrin Jacking pad made a rennlister. Just remember to remove the jacking pads before going for a cruise. 😏

I love my QuickJack. They're very stable with the car on them. I had a 2011 Cayman S before my 911, and the QuickJacks lifted the car high enough that I was able to drop the transmission and replace the flywheel and clutch myself.

For oil changes, the "short" ramps provide enough lift and are much easier to drive onto.

A quickjack is nice, but if you just want ramps to do an oil change, forget a traditional ramp that you must carefully drive up on, especially if you have a manual transmission. I’m embarrassed to say this but when I had a Boxster, I backed up right over my ramps once, and messed up my side skirts. On my 997, I decided to just get the Race Ramp wheel cradles that you can just easily jack the car onto. So easy to do and no risk of driving over them. When you buy the set, it comes with 2 on each side that you can stack to get more height if needed, but I only need one to get enough clearance to do the oil change.

Quick Jacks for me .... I can get those things under the car and up in 10min flat besides with them you start appreciating that you have plenty of working space.

This method is what I did before I got my Quick Jack. It is a safe and low cost method for Oil Changes.

Just be aware that you use the solid 8" high Race Ramp Wheel Cribs, you need to jack the car up about 16" to get them under the wheels due to the suspension hang. The 4" Cribs shown in the picture are probably a better choice, yet in looking at the Race Ramp website, I'm not sure the stackable Cribs are still offered...??

Yes, I really like this method of doing it. You can still get em on Ebay, although not from the manufacturer I guess.
