Coming back from a ride today a Transmission Failure error came up on my dash this afternoon and mine is a 2017 turbo s with only 20k miles.. Taking it to porsche next week to find out what happened. Crazy thing when I limped it home and turned it off and back on the error went away and the car drove fine.. Thoughts? I just picked this up only 4 weeks ago under warranty and 2 years of cpo...

That is typical of the early PDK failure symptoms. The codes really tell the story.

Does this help?

The point of this thread is not to come up with some kind a ratio of failures. It is to document failures, model years and mileage. On this forum there have maybe been a handful I would guess.
this forum doesn’t have that many members. Knowing that 1% of members have experienced a pdk issue/replacement would be representative of the rate this issue occurs at even if true number is say 0.5% or 2%.

Do we count it as a failure if the dealership just yeeted a new PDK into the car because it was making a weird noise sometimes in certain conditions, but otherwise had no codes or verifiable issues other than "the owner doesn't like it" ?

"weird noise" vs "no weird noise" followed up by "replacement" vs "no replacement" sounds like a "yes" vs "no"...

im not the poll police, but if you have a new transmission in your car then the Porsche dealer decided that it warranted replacement. Maybe it was a total failure or the initial stages but if you don’t have your original transmission then vote in the appropriate MY.

If those that had failure posted below in the actual thread then a paper trail will be created and some can be reached for further info/help.

I think cclcal has a point. Why not have an option that could help people evaluate the risk? The total number of 991s produced (as someone posted) is irrelevant in this poll, as you are only presenting it to a VERY small subset of owners. "No Failure" is a relevant choice when you are sampling this small population.

AND BTW - My PDK did fail and I am a bit disgusted by it. So I am definitely no apologist for Porsche

This really is quite worthless without a “not yet” or “perfectly fine” option.

No way of knowing how many people are contributing.

I clearly understand your point. It seems that often people answer a different question that is asked initially. Like someone posting, why do I have to change my oil if it’s only been 1 year and I have only driven 900miles. What happened to the oil that it is no longer good? Many responses will state 1year/10k miles. While this is true, it’s not what was initially asked.

I created a poll on someone’s recommendation instead of a thread about PDK failures that folks would just add a post about their failure. Keeping a tally in that type of thread would be laborious. This specific thread is asking about confirmed failures and in what year car Di it occur. This isn’t a risk analysis trying to compute some kind of ratio. If you haven’t had a failure and marked the non existent option of NONE, then what happens if by the slim chance you did have a failure. You would have skewed the data. You will then create a new member name just to update the failure in the correct MY. The question that is being asked is in what year car did you have a PDK failure? It’s not asking, have you had a failure? Clearly this forum has a TINY subset of 991 owners. But those that had transmissions replaced can help show the MY distribution.

The threads i been reading seem like this affects fairly low mileage cars. Or maybe thats just wishful thinking since i'm at 100K+ miles i'm scared.

Great poll as I am curious how many PDK failures there are so far. Starting to hear more and more PDK failure and what is the cause of it and is it more so for 991.1 only?
