OEM side skirt - replaceable?
Looking at a used 991.1 Has some expected cosmetic blemishes (minor scratches/dings, curb rash) for a used car, but there is a fair sized gouge on the side skirt. I can't tell if the material is plastic or metal, but looks like metal. Aesthetically I'm okay to just do a touch-up, I intend this as a driver, not a garage queen. I do plan on keeping this car for awhile, and if it's metal, I'm afraid of potential rust in the future. Looking at it, I can't tell if this part is easily removable/replaceable or if it's part of the main body?

There is a plastic side skirt you can buy for a few hundred from Sun Coast https://www.suncoastparts.com/product/991SSILL.html
They also have a paintable one that is around $500, but it looks like that damage is to the metal. I would see if you can just have it touched up with paint and you will be good to go. You will probably be the only one to ever notice it due to the location. If you are buying from a dealership see if you can negotiate the repair at no cost as part of the deal.

I think that's an aftermarket side skirt, Techart or similar. If so, it's plastic. I'd just touch it up with a little paint and be done with it.

Thanks guys, I'm almost certain those are the OEM skirts and they are metal.

That's metal. I have a bigger/ deeper scratch (curb corner at my own house!!). I just spray painted it. Most people wouldn't notice it or think it's just dirty because of the location.

The line you can see a couple inches above the bottom of the sill/skirt is where this becomes the plastic skirt on my S.
I wouldn't be surprised that the narrow body has a spot welded steel sill while the wide body that has a reinforced chassis would rely less on this part for stiffness and allows more flexibility with a different plastic skirt for each model based on the WB (S vs turbo vs GTx...)

Makes me think that if it's a steel sill, then a paint-less dent repair man can probably fix it for a couple hundreds, assuming he would have access to the inside by removing a plastic trim from either the wheel well or below the car.
