Default Brainstorming needed Alternator or??

2012 991 C2S PDK ~30k miles
Beautiful Porsche day yesterday. We took a 3+ hour mixed, highway/local, drive with a lunch stop near the beach. Nav, air and iPod running.
Now the concern.
During the return leg the warning “Bong” sounded and “Key not found in the car” popped up on the screen, it was in my pocket the whole drive. Then the tach dropped to ~500 rpm at 75 mph in 7th. (I’m going to be getting about 90 mpg if true.)
Traffic was too heavy to look down and toggle thru multi-screens for info. Thinking about it I’m suspecting low charging voltage.

Has anyone else had something like this happen?

If you have auto-stop enabled, there is a cool feature where it coasts the car which puts your rpm way way down. Does give you excellent gas mileage.

For the fob, could be your battery is just running low. Easy fix if that’s the issue. Try changing the fob battery?

If alternator fails you should get a "generator charging" error on dash

That is what I thought should happen. I will check voltage etc tonight. I wonder what the threshold is for warning?

Key battery will fix your fob.

If you're on a PDK and you have AS/S enabled, it will pull the clutches and coast in neutral if you're off throttle under specific conditions. It's an emissions thing.

Tach read 0-500 for about 50 miles of 70-80mph on the Parkway not much coasting.; Fob battery is <1 year still it could be low? it will be changed. I haven't looked does the Dummy key have a battery?

Fob battery changed ~13 months old. Found the voltage setting in multi gauge 14.7 so far (25 mile run.) will monitor things and see. Thank you for the input.

How old is the main 12V battery? If the battery is over 3 years old, I would change it. I have seen very strange messages as the battery gets older.

Replace fob battery with lithium. Will last much longer. And more resistant to cold but that shouldn’t come into play.

Answer to "How old is the AGM size 46 battery?)" It is marked 2/2020 It was in there when I bought the car Aug 2020.

Lithium FOB battery installed. We ill see how long it behaves.

NEVER MIND! JUST DID A SEARCH AND LEARNED ABOUT SMART CHARGING IN OUR CARS.
These things are too smart for me.

What is your 991 charging voltage?
A question about interesting some observations from today's 2 hour ride in Sport mode.

Question for owners of Sport/Sport+ 991C2S owners
Normal mode - charging voltage = ~12.5 @ any rpm (lighten the load fuel saving?)
Sport & Sport + - charging voltage = ~14.5 (Yes it should modulate as the battery reaches full charge)
Is this true for your C2S?
12.5 is only about 80-90% charged where 14.5 is pretty typical for normal charging of a 12v automobile battery.

After 2+ hours the tach quit working again. $$@@#%&&! (14.5 V indicated on meter, so probably not volts related)
