A Torx is always a 6 point, same for an E-Torx, the fastener is female, the other is a male respectively.

Where else have I seen a Triple Square? Used on a Constant Velocity joint?

Triple square is used on the seat belt mounting bolts.

I am in the process of changing the gasket/ seal on a 2009 997.2 S unfortunately with my design it is extremely difficult to do. Reason being the thermostat housing has a long pipe which goes up and under the alternator where it connects to one of two main distribution cooling pipes. Even removing the thermostat housing and pulling that cover rearward a few inches does not help. I spent most of the day on and off cleaning both sides of the U shaped plastic pipe and the thermostat housing. Why, there is only a 1/4" space between the two pieces with which to work. A very tedious job. Looking back at this job I woulld go the shop manual route and pull the bumper, exhaust, alternator and r engine carrier bolts. Not a job for the faint of heart.

Default Dealer warranty, water pump replacement

So I bought a 2017, 991.2 and before purchasing, I noticed some coolant residue did some research found a bunch of forms which was very helpful. Took it to the dealer and realized that the water pump had a 10 year warranty, which was awesome the dealer in Woodland ca. Porsche took care of it then 1000 miles later it is dripping again the Porsche dealership in Woodland is about 500+ miles away from me where I bought my car the Porsche dealership in Stevens Creek where I live says it’s not the water pump it’s the pipe leaking behind it and that wouldn’t be covered under warranty. Feeling a little bummed as this is most likely due to the original install by the dealer in Woodland. I don’t think my black pipe behind the water pump was upgraded, what should I do? Don’t want to drive it all the way back down to Woodland. Thanks in advance.

Take a clear and well lit photo of it.

Are you going to fix it yourself? Do you have independent shops you can get a quote from? Can’t ignore it. Either pay the dealer or an independent to fix it if you can’t/won’t do the work yourself. I’m not sure what other options there are, maybe you could sell it?

I’m willing to do some repairs myself, but I’d rather build this relationship with this Porsche dealer just in case any further leaks occur. Just hoping they would have put it under warranty as it is related to the water pump.

Since the water pump is under the 10 year warranty and they replaced it, they should have replaced the coolant tube (the black one) IF it is not updated to the newer version with the gussets at the flanges. I do not have a 991.2 but a 991.1 so I do not know what year and month they went to the updated version. But they should have given you the option to replace the updated coolant pipe if it is not covered during the water pump replacement just for the price of it.

You need to remove the coolant pump to replace the black coolant pipe and it is far more of a job to do so. Since mine is not leaking, I just replaced the O-ring at the other end at the thermostate housing that was easy to get to. So far so good in 2+ years. Don't cheap out; get all new O-rings when doing the job.

Maybe call Porsche NA.

Once you remove coolant pipes 1 and 2 and remove the single E-Torx bolt holding the thermostat housing to the engine, the thermostat housing is loose and can be moved towards the rear, it will slide off coolant pipe 3. Coolant pipe 3 stays in place. And those are 31 x 3 O-rings.

Thank you, I’ve figured it all out with your help and taking a look under the car. It’s much harder when my car looks different due to being outside for 12 years .
Now to order the parts.

I’m confused. Your car is still under CPO warranty, so the dealer could’ve done this job for free, but you chose to do it yourself?

Maybe you haven't been on Rennlist long enough to read all the comments from owners taking their vehicles to the dealer for either warranty work or regular servicing only for the owner to take it back, sometimes more than once, for them to get the job done right.

By the way, I can't remember hiring any trades in well over 45 years, be it for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, concrete work, carpentry, vehicle repairs/maintenance, etc. except for the gas line installation, but only for legalities. Having to do it all myself to make sure it is done right is a burden, but one I am willing to live with. Do you want me to get going on aircraft maintenance next. Knowing it is done right and the money I save is a huge bonus.

I did the same thing to my 991 Turbo backing into a parking lot curb. Are you able to replace it yourself and how hard is it to replace the coolant pipe?

It's more involved that that. You need to remove the entire coolant pump housing, which involves pulling the mufflers, harmonic balancer (which apparently requires a special tool), and all the ancillary bits connected to that. Mine ended up leaking after did all the work to change my water pump/thermostat/seals/etc. I was defeated after that so I called around to just get that $40 black plastic pipe changed out.
Dealership told me $2000
an Indy told me $1400...sold, had my car towed there.

They then sheepishly called me back a couple times apologizing as they underestimated this job. Told them to just get it done. $3200 later I had no more coolant leaks. However I have been find a bunch of vacuum tubes they failed to reconnect. Think I got them all and can finally enjoy my car without the 'coolant fault warning' popping up. Sometimes just because you take your car to the pros doesn't mean they'll do a better job than you.
