Default Carport to Garage Conversion

A carport is great but it's no garage. Still get water spots after a hard rain plus some sun, leaves blow into my storage closets, and the pollen just messed with my sense of order every spring:

Wash + 1 Day

So here are the pics from my conversion project. Began May of 2020 and finished September 2021. Permits, material delays due to COVID, etc.

Had we simply added a garage door to the carport, my wife and I would have had exactly 1 inch clearance on the front and back of our cars. So we bumped out the carport 2 feet. Roof and gutters both had to be reworked.

One of the conditions of construction was that we wanted to have use of the carport during construction to keep our cars off the street. Turned out not to be a problem for the contractor.

First coat of stucco.

This was a very exciting day. Custom ordered doors came in.

Here's the first pic of the sliding doors in. Protective film is still on the glass.

Closed

Open!

Inside has radiant heaters on the ceiling.

The end. Always how the house should have looked Hope you enjoyed the pics.

Very nice, that looks great!

Ease into using the radiant heaters. We have them in our shop and anything metal straight down from them get HOT. We've even seen spots in our floor hit 120° and they are 20' off the floor.

Wow! Very nice transformation. The glass doors are a wonderful addition - I can just envision sipping coffee and admiring the car from outside
I'd add better lighting than the recessed lights - makes working on the cars much easier.
And lastly - since the walls aren't exterior now, you can have them painted white or some light color to make the place seem brighter - makes a ton of a difference.

Good stuff, was dealing with a car port until about 2 months ago.

Nice garage door, I have the same one with clear glass.

Wash plus 1 day is horrible! Great job. Side sliding doors are a great idea.

AGREE. I tested them out the other day and was surprised how much heat they were putting down. We have a Redwell panel in our master bath and it's on all winter and it's just the right temp. I'm glad this one has adjustability.

The only thing the city got hung up on was removing stone chips on our property and replacing it with plants. Not related at all to the footprint of the carport / garage.

We were required to do a very detailed property survey ($1,450).
