Default Oil Collection for Analysis - 991.1

Hi gang-

I am interested in collecting some engine oil to send in for analysis. I was provided with a pump and plastic tube. Obviously I don't have a dipstick tube leading to an oil pan, but I am wondering if I could still collect a decent quantity of oil by snaking the tube into the provided port for adding oil.

Thoughts?

Collect it when draining your oil.

Alternately, crack the drain loose and make a small mess collecting a little that way, then wipe up your oil pan.

Seems unlikely, looking at the tubing in the oil filler neck in the 991.1 Factory Service Manual. The filler cap covers a short length of pipe, which leads to the lower filler neck assy, which terminates at the crankcase with a couple M6 bolts.

How urgent do you need to send the oil for analysis? If you're doing this just as part of regular maintenance to keep tabs on the engine health, then do this when you change the oil.
Blackstone Labs is a popular choice that the 997/996 folks use - if you enroll, they will send you a labelled bottle to send the oil to them.
As the old oil is draining, just collect the sample in the bottle and send it to them.

Thanks. Blackstone is where I got the kit.

I was trying to avoid waiting for an oil change, although there really isn't any particular urgency here.

RICH- the graphic is very helpful.

I have tried to pump oil through the filler. The tube hits a dead end. So no, it won't work.

Ideally you want to get the oil H-O-T and collect the sample mid-pour.
