Default Adding Android Auto for $130, OTTOCAST Wireless Android Auto Adapter U2-X

Creating a new post specific to adding Android Auto to a 991.2 that has Apple Carplay from factory, but not AA.

I have a 991.2 so it has carplay but not android auto. I bought the Ottocast 2 in 1 wireless adapter from Amazon. I just plugged it in. Took 30 seconds to hookup. I now have functional wireless android auto! I only played around with it in the garage. Will test drive it later this week. But it seemed to work great in my garage! Waze, phone calls, Spotify all worked great. 👍👍

edit, used for 1.5 hrs today and it worked great!

Make sure your AA has the Wireless box checked in the app. Also need to make sure your phone is not connected to your PCM via Bluetooth

I'll add photos of the screens and the startup later. Took a few photos but the glare was too bad.

I used for 2hrs on Sunday and did not experience any lagging issues. This was with multiple start ups and shut downs.
It was super easy to "install". I turned the key, then disconnected and "forgot" the PCM Bluetooth connection with my phone. Plugged in the Ottocast to the USB connection in the armrest. After about 20 seconds, my phone "found" the Ottocast Bluetooth, and I connected. About 10 seconds later a screen prompted on the PCM enabling Apple CarPlay. Touch the CarPlay on the PCM, and was instantly met with full Android Auto. From there it was seamless AA. It seems to automatically connect, within 5 seconds of entering the car and powering on the car. So fast, I couldn't get the startup screen! Will try again.
So far, the best $130 I've spent on my car!

Little dusty there...
Would have showed Waze working, but didn't want to "show" my Home icon location.
I tried the Phone yesterday, and everything worked great.
Was also able to reply to a text message by speaking to Google.
From what I can tell, this is no different than any of the other AA experiences I have had with other cars.

Pasting my reply from another thread that had an evolving discussion on this...

It's Legit!!! I ordered it earlier in the week after seeing this thread. I had contemplated the PCM hack for a few months, BUT no need, this is way better (no use of carPlay icon and other random stuff as is the case with the PCM hack), after the first connection everything runs as smooth as if it were an OEM setup.

Although I am jumping straight to Wireless-AA without much prior wired-AA experience, I am into mobile phone tech, and was highly impressed with the operation of this wireless-AA, considering native/wired AA isn't readily available on our cars.

I will also add, for those that are looking into this. If you have an Android phone that runs Android 11 or newer, the process should be pretty much plug-n-play, (similarly, with the mentioned Google or Samsung line of Phones running Android 10, note: for Android 9 and older, you will likely have to install the AA app from the Google Play Store, whereas Android 10 and newer the AA wireless app is already on the phone: go to your settings>Apps&notifications>App Info). However, I got mine going with a Motorola phone Moto Z4 running Android 10.

Here are the steps of what you have to do to get your non-google/non-samsung Android 10 phone wireless AA feature to appropriately connect to the Ottocast 2-in-1 device. Steps:
  1. Enable development settings in the Android Auto app by opening the app, tapping settings, scrolling down until you see “version,” and then tapping on “version” 10 times.
  2. Enter Development Settings.
  3. Select “show wireless projection option.”
  4. Reboot your phone.
  5. Follow your head unit’s instructions on connecting to it wirelessly.

Note: on my Moto Z4 the development setting I had to select reads "Add Wireless Projection to Settings" as opposed to listed Step#3 above. After doing this, the wireless AA appears in the main settings of your AA app and should be toggled-On by default. The steps above were obtained from the details found here (source is an article from the "XDA" phone tech/developer forum):
https://www.xda-developers.com/wirel...oid-phone/amp/

I imagine Ottocast customer assistance will help troubleshoot for their listed "compatible" phones. But if anyone has any trouble with other phones, tag me with a post in this thread, or PM me.

Man, I am so psyched to have this, after living without it for the 4 years I've been driving my 991.2.

Good to hear. There do seem to be a lot of 1 star reviews on Amazon though but I'm sure every car is different and can be finicky.

Hasn't Porsche addressed this or is this restricted to MY 22?

Up and running with 2 issues. Couldn't get the firmware to update after following the pamphlet's instructions ("Update Failed" message). Also...maps is showing offline (no real-time traffic) but I haven't driven the car yet (about to storm outside).

** EDIT ** Nevermind...missed the WiFi Direct step while updating the Firmware. G2G now...all updated and traffic is online!

This is the real deal. After seeing the post I bought one and tested on my 2018 991.2 GT3 with my Pixel 6. Works perfectly. I can now use Android Auto on the PCM.

Since then I've tested it on my Macan and it works just as well. 2nd unit is on order.

100% recommend you buy this if you want Android Auto on your Porsche.
