Dealer Cost - Windshield Replacement
Got a crack in my 2018 Carrera T windshield last night from a seemingly drunk Mustang owner that cut in front of me and kicked a rock up. (FYI, he almost spun out while cutting me off, then a quarter of a mile later almost crashed into a pole making a left turn).
Called the local North Carolina dealer this morning for a replacement and they quoted $3900 for a replacement. $1700 for the class, so $2200 for installation and various parts. They are charging $230 an hour for the shop rate. Frankly I am stunned and angry. Has anyone else gotten these types of quotes?
FYI, this is not my first 911 so I am used to exorbitant dealer charges, but this seems completely off the charts. I have half a mind to sell the car and give up on Porsches over this. I used to do my own oil changes because back in 2018/2019 this dealer was charging $600+ for an oil change.

That makes me feel a bit better. There has only been one person at this dealership I've liked, other than that, they treat me like ****, unless I am prepared to spend $300 or $400k on a GT3 or Turbo.

should be about $300 for the installation and parts not including the glass ( takes about 45 minutes to do it).
Try a local glass place, the dealership will just bring someone in to do it for them).
Since I track my car, I am on windshield number seven.

Recently had my windshield for the Cayenne replaced at my dealer - $3700 all in, insurance paid for all of it. Thermal glass was a bit more than $2k, plus install, plus time to settle in for camera calibration.

hahahahaaaaa. This makes me feel so much better. I’ve stubbornly refused to replace the windshield on mine, but the track has taken a massive toll on it, to the point where if I drive it into the sun it’s almost impossible to see anything. At this point it’s a safety hazard, so I’ll be replacing it before my next track day.
Do you use OEM manufacturer glass or 3rd party glass for it?

Guess NC is different, here in FL insurance covers windshield replacement at no charge (of course cost is factored into your policy premiums). However at today’s prices, that can be a year’s premium payment.
Had the windshield replaced on my Benz SUV with factory glass and a couple of months ago the same on my wife’s Toyota SUV, including camera reset. No charge.
So far the 911 only has a few small nicks. We have trucks carrying gravel here, FL produces ••ck tons of it , the gravel size is just perfect for tires to kick up, it’s all over the roads.
Check to see if your comprehensive coverage can apply.
Nothing Porsche is cheap.

I recently had one replaced under an insurance claim by Safelite. I think the receipt said they billed the insurance company $1600-ish.
They used factory Porsche glass (or whoever the OEM supplier is) and told me that the local P dealer brings the cars to them when a customer needs glass.

Same question here, doesn't insurance cover? Replaced my cracked WS last year about $2200. Insurance company balked at price at first, but glass company talked to them and they relented. I found out who dealer used and went to them directly and saved the dealer's ridiculous surcharge.

I had the windshield on my car replaced at the dealer. Price was $2,175 installed. I prefer replacing glass at the dealer because they are liable for damage, leaks and any issues. My insurance covers glass with no deductible.

First one I had the insurance cover it. After that, I paid myself as a cost of tracking the car.......
I ignore the starry night small ones and only replace if I get a long running crack ( usually an edge of the windshield hit).

Yeesh, I had mine replaced for free. Required by law in Minnesota to have $0 deductible glass coverage with comprehensive.
A good bit of the cost is definitely in the labor. There are three sensors, at least one of which needs to be calibrated with special equipment. My windshield replacement took the better part of a day -- a far cry from the ~1hr ordeal I'm used to on other cars.
