That sucks! I always remove my wheels and take them over in my other car, I don’t want any interior or any other damage to the car while it’s there. I will definitely include pics of the wheels before they go over next time!

I don’t even take my 911 to a tire shop. I have them come to me. If you go on TireRack’s site, they have listings of mobile installers that come to your home or office if you buy the tires from them. That way, you can tell them what to do from start to finish and also they don’t drive your car.

Pic below of them installing new rears. There’s a paper towel covering my red brake caliper to prevent any chipped paint during the wheel removal/replace. All the balancing equipment and tools are in the van so it’s still done professionally. No wheel imbalance issues or damage to my wheels.

This not atypical behavior. Had it happen to my wife’s car at another national store and they denied responsibility.

Wheels will get marked up on tire installation over time. However this usually happens on the inside of the rim. Good installation leaves the outside unmarked. I take mine to the Porsche dealer where there’s more accountability and prices for tires have been reasonable.

Very sorry this happened to you.

This. Why not take a six-figure car to a specialist that respects your car as much as you do? Saving a couple hundred bucks is not worth your time/trouble.

Other threads were Porsche dealer matches Tire Rack tire cost. I suspect their mounting and balancing are more, but probably worth the peace of mind. Used COSTCO for an older 09 Boxster just before I sold. I have an indy, same guy, that does my street, track tires and alignments. I definitely go the credit card route and at least dispute the install cost, which is a token amount.

I get my tires at the dealer. I pay about $50 a corner Porsche tax over the average place (they source tires from TireRack, as do many dealers). That is $50 very well spent. I just got two new rears on an ///M, dealer installed. They were somehow cheaper than TireRack.

I wouldn’t dream of going to Costco with a 911 (or a BMW).

Not trying to be mean, but really…..why are you surprised?

Because of the last five years of perfect tire service from them in installing four sets of tires and 'Michelin trained installers' (as I posted above.)

Unfortunately, you got a tech who's poorly trained, having a bad day and/or doesn't give a crap. That can happen almost anywhere. I've taken prior Porsches to Costco for new tires and it went well...I watched as they took 3x as long as the other cars, were very careful, double checked everything, etc.

So if you insist on rolling the dice, then sometimes you are going to lose. Use the previous wins to pay the loss. Move on.

You can’t argue that using Costco isn’t rolling the dice.

I’m not arguing the dealer couldn’t do the same, or they don’t have clumsy techs, but I will argue there is a better chance they have the right equipment, training and intent than [insert discount name]. And if they do screw it up, I know they are going to make it right without me needing to leave messages with customer service.

To be fair to the OP, I have taken my cars (including a 911) to Costco with no problems.

In fact, their techs were oftentimes more courteous and professional than Indy tech shops that specialize in track cars.

The sky is falling.........

Don't toss out all national chain stores just because you have a bad experience at your location.

Please indicate the location of the store you had bad services with a truthful explanation of the facts and how they remedied the issue or not and then let the chips fall where they land.

It does suck to hear about bad experiences.

I asked Costco to exchange the spare with the best of the 4 tires being replaced. When I checked the tire pressure in the spare two weeks later, there was no pressure. Found a puncture through the sidewall. Probably was proud of himself.

Honest question here… when it comes to tire changes, what is “the right equipment”? And what equipment does Costco use that you’ve deemed to be the wrong equipment?

The “right equipment” has very little to do with the actual machines being used to mount and balance the tires.
