Beware Costco Tire Center Causes Rim Damage when Mounting New Tires
I purchased four Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tires for My 2017 991.2 at Costco. I took a quick look in the dim evening light after the installation and all seemed ok. The next day I took a second close look at the rims and two rims each had a chip of paint broken off the lip and one rim had a paint scrape/crack on the spoke. I went back to Costco and showed the tire department the damage. They gave me a damage claim form to fill out and they took pictures of the damage. At this time I had to have them tighten a leaking valve stem caused by their install. I later learned that the white dots on the new tire sidewalls are supposed to align with the position of the valve stems. This wasn’t done (lightest point of tire balanced by weight of valve stem.) In the past I’ve had exemplary work done by this Costco Tire Center. Over the last five tears I’ve purchased four sets of tires from them with zero problems.
About two weeks later I received a call from Costco’s claim department stating that I can’t prove that the damage was done by Costco even though this is the first tire replacement on my Porsche and this damage is obviously not curb rash. I asked to talk to the department’s manager and was given a number to call that requested I leave a message. Two left messages later no return call. Called Costco Corporate offices and spoke to an operator who transferred me to a number requesting I leave my number, no return call.

Ask your credit card company to pursue this issue and dispute the charges.

I would go back to Costco and talk to the store manager. Plead your case again and come prepared with repair estimates so they know exactly how much you're looking to be reimbursed.

Discount tire always owns up to damages, no questions asked. Costco is **** about many things. Their main audience is the older/budget oriented crowd that drive average joe cars w/o prejudice.

Goes without saying, but never take any wheels that you care about to a high-volume tire store, they will do the work as quickly/cheaply as possible, often on inferior equipment with poorly trained technicians. Find an independent store that specializes in high-end makes with 'touchless' tire mounting, or just pay the Porsche Tax at your local dealer.

Aw geez... I can't imagine even taking a Honda to Costco but hopefully you've lived and learned.

ugh.
I had Firestone mess up a really nice set of phone dial wheels once for my 944. They paid a token sum.
Whenever I go for tire work, I clean the wheels really well, then photograph each wheel. I also mark which wheel is in which location on the car.
I tell the shop I do this and tell them to point out any flaws I have missed.
I also won’t pick the car up at night.
This is sadly the only way I have found to deal with the problem.

I’m also surprised that Costco didn’t make things right. That’s just not their corporate model.

I'm sorry that this has happened to you and sincerely hope that it gets resolved but the title of this thread reads a bit like " Beware: Had a bad meal at MacDonald's"
I personally would never take my Porsche to anyone beyond a qualified indy or dealer for this exact reason. The headaches and potential for damage are way too high to justify any potential savings from these evil corpo box stores.

Here's three pics showing the damage and two showing misalignment. In the past I've purchased four sets of expensive tires (16 tires) from Costco with no damage or tire mounting problems. Costco tire personnel are listed as Michelin trained and certified. My advice after this experience is always take pictures of your rims right before your car goes into the work bay.
