Default Do you need a "code" to enable PSE button on 991.1?

I have a valved exhaust and purchased the console switch for my 4S. I have all the vacuum lines hooked up and it operates as a non-PSE S model should. Can a PIWIS program the exhaust switch to operate using the PSE switch? Do I need a "code" to do this for a 991.1? I have seen conflicting posts on this and want to clarify. Any real world input would be appreciated.

Yes, the newly installed PSE button must be coded to operate the valves.

I have heard some say they need a unique "code" to enter that a seller must provide to enable the function, I don't want to spend the time to go to a shop and them to tell me I need this. I don't have PSE, I have a valved exhaust I wat to actuate via the PSE button.

Just call ahead and ask. Two area dealers around me were happy to do it.

IIRC the code is for Sport Chrono package and not just PSE. My car came with AWE switchpath and I changed to PSE and then immediately regretted it and reverted the very next day. I’ve grown to liking the AWE now - still prefer the sound of the 997.1 cars though 😜

I showed up to the dealership, explained what I needed, and it was programmed an hour later. I didn't provide any sort of special code.

One Boston area dealer quoted me one hour labour - $209, and the other $400.

With the PSE button in the center console. You can buy the whole assembly from Suncoast and the dealer will program it. You have to email suncoast with your VIN. They will create a custom online SKU for you to order.

1 hour, I think it was around $180 USD after tax. They tried to charge me $15 for shop supplies but they removed it after I asked them to show me what shop supplies were used

I installed the Suncoast PSE kit on my 981 five years ago and was not familiar with PIWIS and the coding procedure. I took it to the dealership for coding , after completing the installation, as recommended in the provided instructions. The dealership asked me if Suncoast provided a code to activate the PSE button and I told them they had not and didn’t know what they were talking about. One hour and $140 later the service was complete and I had an operating PSE. I recently purchased a PIWIS2 clone to activate Sport Chrono and a hacked 16 digit code and am now familiar with the activation process. From what I can tell from the instructions that came with my PSE it did not require the 16 digit activation code tied to your VIN, generated by Porsche in the motherland or a purchased hacked code but does require PIWIS to change and activate the switch locations (keypad assignment) for the new PSE switch.
