Default Apex VS-5RS Wheels

Am thinking of getting a set of these for my 2018 991.2 Carrera T.

Would welcome feedback, opinions, experience and thoughts on these lightweight forged wheels.

Thanks!

Just got my set installed, and have to say this is one of the best upgrades I have ever done to the car.

Porsche 991.2 Carrera T Wheel Specs:
F: 20"x8.5", ET49, 24.3lbs
R: 20"x11.5", ET76, 28.2lbs

Apex VS-5RS Narrow Body Setup Specs:
F: 20"x9", ET44, ~19.8lbs
R: 20"x11.5", ET72, ~21.4lbs

Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires
F: 245/35R20
R: 305/30R20

Rennline Wheel Spacers
F: 3mm
R: 3mm

Acer Titanium Lug Bolts (34mm)

My review:

My reason for getting the Apex VS-5RS was to have lighter wheels while retaining the 20" diameter for aesthetics. With a savings of 4.5lbs per wheel up front, and 6.8lbs per wheel in back, the Apex wheels total 22.6lbs less in rotating mass!

While I love the look of these rims, most of the benefits I've noticed are related to the weight reduction, so are not necessarily due to these rims specifically.

I had a set of PS4S with 5k miles on them unmounted then remounted on the Apex wheels. So a direct back-to back, minimal placebo. On pulling out the driveway, then going for a canyon run, I immediately noticed the following:
  • Handling: car feels significantly more agile / lightfooted / responsive, closer to being a small car like my BRZ
  • Suspension: more compliant and smooth; reduced mass feels like it just allows the suspension as a whole to work better, less crashy; mind you it was already made more compliant by the DSC Sport, but now it feels even smoother; road feel is also better as I can feel every texture in a good way; I was also able to run higher pressures and still have the car feel smoother, going from F/R: 31/33, to F/R: 33/38
  • Acceleration: without a doubt faster, braking more responsive as well

Overall, I am extremely happy with this setup... Thank you, Apex!

Applied GYEON Quartz Rim, 2 coats, before mounting. Picked up center caps from Etsy for $41.

Some quick pics, will post better ones soon.

Will have a set on soon for final feedback, but having received them am impressed. Lightweight, nice finish work, nicely packaged, and very good looking. And, fom what I've seen in other posts, fitment looks spot on for a narrow-body 991.2, which so far just about nobody has had right.

(This said after eating $1200+ on a set of custom-finished set of wheels from a famous wheel manufacturer that didn't even come close to fitting a 305 in the fender correctly).

Not much else to add as above, got my set last year and used them for track duty as intended. 19x9 ET50 and 19x11.5 ET72 on 265/35 and 325/30 AR-1. Fitment is excellent, no rubbing, and yes, clears RAS module without issue.

Tip - remove center caps for track use.

They're the best wheel out there, IMO. I chickened out of the group buy because I'm poor.

I love mine and will re-iterate Stout's comment about the only game in town for a "correct" off the shelf solution for a 991.2 narrow body. Also, I drive my car a lot and the wheels have held up nicely at 2 different track days to date. Here are a few pics:https://rennlist.com/forums/991/1106...l#post18540025

Had a set and sold them in less then a year, these wheels are kinda boring and although light weight I’d rather have a set of Volks,BBS,Advans etc… another critique i have is the faces aren’t aggressive for any of the narrow body cars. I don’t understand why these almost look like stock Carrera wheels slightly smaller if you get them in 19s. (Not that bad of a thing) I also don’t find these that cheap compared to the name brands. Also with these wheels are on every Bmw btw and they look better because they have concave. One thing i did like was no wait to get a set, performance was awesome on track and again they are light.

These look great! I'm reading that these are track wheels though, is that different from wheels you would use daily? What makes track wheels different from normal wheels... do they make track wheels lighter for performance, since you will only be using them on a perfectly paved track, so they dont have to stand up to potholes and the abuse of wheels that are daily driven? (forgive my ignorance, i have zero experience with aftermarket wheels)

^ Interesting take, and to each their own—but this might be the best-looking application of the 19s I've seen to date. Something about the color of the car, the ride height, tires, and wheels…but the "stockishness" (with a twist) is a big part of the appeal for me.

Can see where others would want something more aggressively different, however.

these wheels will definitely hold up to daily driving abuse and track abuse. Track wheels are normally lighter than standard wheels by quite a few pounds. the rotational mass saved on each wheel adds up really quick And allows for weight savings along with faster acceleration. Different materials give different advantages. Forged wheels like these offer a good strength to weight ratio in one package. while cast aluminum wheels aren’t as strong or light they can still offer good performance. Then you have the exotic materials like magnesium and carbon fiber offer extreme weight savings but don’t make for the best wheels everyday.

Thanks, Pete. Are they going on your green 991.2 Carrera? Which colour/finish did you opt for?

Cheers.

Amazing wheels. I am on my second set for the GT4. Lightweight. Aggressive design on the spokes. Nice thick durable power coating. Love them!

I waffled and held off on the group buy too. Any idea how often Apex does them? Seemed like a good deal with the high participation….

Thanks for the replies, guys!

If anyone went for the clear brushed look, I’d really like your feedback.

I put a set on my 991.1 for track days. They're light and good looking. These are the titanium grey color, which looked great on my Agate Grey 911.

They are, and they're Motorsport Gold—though I'll be playing around with finishes due to my predilection for silver wheels. In fact, two have already been repainted in a factory silver.
