Default DIY Maintenance Records

How do you keep it all in order? Do you have an app, website or spreadsheet?

Interested to see what you guys do.

Looking for an efficient way besides paper.

Thanks

I use the Carfax website which already has my vehicle information. Every time I do something, I document the service and upload receipts for anything purchased or any other relevant documentation.

Thanks! I did that also but not sure if that was sufficient.

I have a simple text file on my computer for every piece of machinery I have on hand and just type in notes with date for any service I perform. I save receipts for oil, filters etc. Don’t over think it.

I use MS Word and MS Excel for the countless files I have such as Parts Inventory, Maintenance, Expense Record, etc.

I keep receipts, take photos, and then keep a small logbook that stays in the glovebox. Maybe the carfax website has changed, but in the past they let you track your maintenance (enter in self-service) but those items weren’t reported when someone pulled the report. Since I already keep receipts and document things, I don’t see much worth in duplicating the effort by entering it into carfax. If someone isn’t happy enough with a clean carfax and a 3-ring binder filled with documentation, I don’t really know what to do for them.

Very similar here. I have a logbook for every car and I take and store a ton of photos of every service or maintenance task. I also always send off my used oil for analysis so I have what are effectively annual reports from Blackstone on each of my cars.

I keep a Google Sheets for the maintenance records of all our cars: Date - Mileage - Service description - Cost
That's my primary, for my own tracking and easy way to reference. All receipts and printouts go into a binder.

Also use the Carfax app and will post any DYI record on there also.

The carfax app is very slick and excellent for personal tracking. But the info is not shared publicly via carfax and you can't print it off the app. So if you want to keep your records in order to assist in future selling of your car, it is not helpful.

It is.. too bad it doesn't show up publicly just like some shop service.

If you cannot print it, where is your record kept on something you own? Exactly why I do not use any cloud.
