PSA: clean your rear fender splash guards
I replaced my driver side splash guard today. I damaged it after hitting an aluminum ladder on the highway. I’m lucky it wasn’t worse!
Here is what poured out:
After what I found, I removed the passenger side which was even worse:
Yes I track the car, but not that much; maybe 8 days in 2 years. I’ve only got 18,650 miles on it!
Also, Crocs rule.

Three Wheelin'
Thx to this post- I removed a pound and a half of dirt from each side and replaced the right side as the clips had all rusted out
a bonus was a thumb sized rock that I have no idea how it got in there and was rattling around

I finally got around to changing mine today when I swapped my winter wheels for the summer set. The passenger side was absolutely loaded with gravel and dirt. The clips were rusted, too. The driver side was better, just a small amount but still more than you would think.

Yeah, the crust is real. I replaced both guards since one clip had already rusted out. I also sprayed a generous amount of Fluid Film in there, which may cause some initial caking of future debris, but at least might protect the clips a little longer.
Fortunately it's a very quick check and clean if you can get the car up on stands and the rear wheels off.

Did the same on my 2013 991.1 C2S about a month ago after reading on here about it. Was shocked at how much (1lb?) dirt and grit came out. I replaced both plastic splash guard pieces as well while in there.
Over time, this would definitely be a potential future quarter panel / sill corrosion area on 991.1 -- wet mud / dirt staying wet for years. Glad I got it cleaned out. I also sprayed fluid film in the area behind the splash guard.
