Serpentine Belt and Tensioner Repair "Double Charge?"

Serpentine Belt and Tensioner Repair "Double Charge?"
I was in for service on another issue and the dealer said my serpentine belt tensioner is " loose without fluid anymore in the grease fitting, and thus is able to be moved back and forth rubbing on the block of the engine".
They are quoting me $1950 for the tensioner repair but then also separately quoted another $925 to replace the belt.
Am I wrong in believing they are double charging me for labor as most of the work needed to replace the belt will have already been incurred in the tensioner repair, and therefore the belt replacement itself should be a parts only charge of about $75?

Uhhhhh. Either they're giving you an FU price, or they're quoting you to fix damage to your engine block. If it's truly just a tensioner + belt, that's about 3 hours of labor and $400 in parts and you should ask them some very direct questions or, better yet, just walk away and never go back.
As an aside, stop going to a dealership for non-warranty work, otherwise you're paying a massive premium for no reason. Find a local indy.
You are correct in your assumption on the labor overlap. Replacing the drive belt completes all the steps requires to replace the tensioner, so the only labor left for replacing a tensioner is physically pulling the tensioner off the engine and putting a new on in its place.
$975 to replace the belt, sure, I could see that. Additional charge for the tensioner is going to be parts cost + 30 minutes at worst. There is absolutely no way the $280 tensioner is marked up to $1600+.

It looks like you have (had) plenty of Porsches and even some classic's. Take this car to your Indy to get repaired.

Just add up the labor rate and deduct the cost of the parts. If they get 4-500 for the part and the labor rate is 250 for example they're charging you ten hours for a 3 hour job. You better run.

Yea, I think you are getting double charged. When my water pump failed (2018 991.2 covered under extended warranty for these pumps), I gave them a serpentine belt and told them to replace it since they had to take it off anyway. They didn't charge me anything for the belt replacement which was due in another two months.

I am starting to wonder if we have "stupid" tattooed in our foreheads.

It has been my experience that when someone lies to you, it's because they don't respect you enough to be honest, and they think that you are too stupid not to know the difference.....find another shop.....note to self, never ever go back.

VERY FAIR pricing and great techs. Given the crazy bleeding process for our cars the 600-700 price was WELL worth it.
