Considering a PCA Driver education event, would this put my CPO warranty at risk?
Hi all,
considering taking my 991.2 to a PCA driver education event. This is a welcome event that is required to newbies, so they can attend regular DE events at a later time.
since my car has multiple years of CPO warranty left, would be attending this event or any future DE event result in my CPO to not be honored IF I need it?
I've read mixed results online, really unfortunate if Porsche didn't stand behind their track ready vehicles!! I almost bought a C8 vette for this exact reason.
Thanks all

My perspective of this is.. How will they ever know? I'm sure if you did "24 hours of Le Mans" (ha) they could tell by the engine readouts... and may be less than excited to approve warranty repairs.. but a PCA DE event, dealer will never know. If you have a failure I would not highlight the 'on track' usage.
But - do check into your insurance and/or get track insurance.

I had a broken exhaust that occurred on track covered by warranty. Mr dealer was well aware that my car was tracked and I never had an issue. Your car is also extremely unlikely to have any issues as you are just getting started, as for at least a few events (and more likely 10+) you won’t begin to approach stresses that will approach what the car was designed to do.

Short answer is no. These cars were designed for this type of activity. A PCA DE event wont even come close to pushing the car's limits anyway. I have three Porsches and one actually comes with a separate track manual. Porsche endorses PCA and their events -including HPDE. They are a major sponsor of PCA.
You don't need to hide it from your dealer. Heck, our local dealership comes to these events.

No issue. Enjoy it. I'd recommend getting track insurance. If you can avoid writing off a $100k+ car and not blink, then you don't need it.

There is always risk - whether it be for CPO or not having track insurance. However, your first event will be in the Green group or whatever beginners are called in your region. That typically means a day of car exercises to gain awareness on track and a day of driving waaay below the limit, with an instructor in your car. The actual risk of anything happening is very small...like below .01%, IMO.
Personally I would have zero concern about either given you will be in a beginner class. As you get up to speed, not having things like track insurance is a personal consideration. In my case, at the risker tracks, I would get it but at the "safer" tracks I would sometimes gamble and pass it up. Many folks I know never got it at all. Lastly, I could not imagine CPO not covering you if something broke due to mechanical failure (things like money shifts and off-track excursions not included). You don't have to tell them it was on a track if you don't want to...

PCA is supported by most Porsche dealers so you should have no problems vis CPO. A
lso, most PCA DE events are safer places to drive than the highway to and from the track!

I had my 991.1 at a track day sponsored by the dealer that sold it to me. The tail lights fell out right in front of the salesman that sold me the car, so that was pretty funny. Needless to say, they got me new tail lights.

That is because it is the internet, the greatest source of unconfirmed information. Why not call or email Porsche Canada and get a definitive answer from the people who will cover you?
And from what I have seen in news reports of accidents, you really want to be in a Porsche.

you definitely should take your car to pca trackday. don't tell insurance.
as a novice you will not be pushing the car at all and very little chance of incident in novice. sign up for skid pad with pca ucr before it fills up!
