Default Porsche 991.2 Rust

Hey All, brand new here.
Looking to purchase my first 911, life long dream.

I’m currently looking at a 2017 991.2 Cab, it’s got 30,000 miles on it so not bad but it’s the exact spec I’m looking for.

The wheels have what looks like rust all over the lug nuts and then on the piece that separates the rim from disk. (Sorry not so technical)

should I be concerned here? This car has been in florida its entire life and I’ve looked at so many of these and never seen this before.

thoughts/advice on whether or not I should move forward.

Welcome!

The rust on the lug nuts doesn't concern me too much. I don't know whether original Porsche lug nuts rust or whether these may be aftermarket, but you can easily change them to fresh ones so I would not personally let that be the deal-stopper here.

On the first picture, it looks like curb rash on the rim rather than rust. Again, totally normal. Someone scraped a concrete curb with the wheel while parallel parking most likely. It can be repaired for a few hundred dollars by a professional.

Thank you!!
I figured lugs wouldn’t be a big issue.

in the first pic, not worried about curb rash but if you zoom in and look at the piece between the rim and the disk break, you’ll see that is rusted too. That’s more what I’m concerned about.

thanks again for the response. I look forward to becoming part of the community.

The surface rust is on the rotor hat -- this is part of the brake rotor, so when your rotors are done you'll get a shiny new one to replace it. It's not an issue unless the sight of it bothers you.

If it bothers you, you can pull the wheel off and hit it with some scotch-brite or similar mild abrasive to clean up. It'll come back next time it gets wet unless you coat it with something, but be careful not to put paint or sealant of some sort on the actual braking surface if you do.

You can always have the wheels repair/refinish, try negotiating the cost of the wheel repair with the seller. Find a place in your area that does PPI (pre-purchase inspection) before committing to buy. Goodluck!

Thank you all so much. I feel way better about this now.

I clearly have a lot to learn but I look forward to it!

First time I've heard of road rash being confused with rust. Just someone kissing a curb lol.
The actual surface rust on the brakes is normal, it's just the metal they have to made out. Mine are starting to look similar. I did replace my wheel bolts with black ones, and they look much better, especially after time.

These guys are in Miami and they are very very good. They can fix the wheels and may be able to help with the rotor hat.

That is nothing to be concerned about.

The rotors will get rust on them, especially after you wash the car and you haven't applied the brakes. Go take it for a test drive and the rust on the ring will come right off. The rust on the rotor hat won't, not to be concerned other than visual.

I see rust on the lugs in my shop all the time. I don't know if it's a cheap coating that's used or an abrasive chemical in popular wheel cleaners.

Good luck and hope you get it!

Buy titanium lug bolts, they do not rust and you will save an ounce or two.

From the looks of that wheel and rotor, the car either lives 2 feet from the ocean or sat outside its entire life. And isnt driven very much.
