Default Caliper piston dust boots cracked…

My brake caliper piston dust boots are cracked… should I spend $870 to replace the four dust boots or $1,800 to have the calipers completely rebuilt (including internal seals) and repainted by PMB Performance (https://pmbperformance.com/products/4-piston-alloy-caliper-restoration-1)? Or are the dust boots something I can DIY (I have a low to moderate level of DIY skill.)

I've never seen those boots crack before. But your steel brakes put out an enormous amount of dust during normal use. Therefore I'm sure there is dust inside the boots damaging the pistons. Also your pads are about half worn out so no telling how long this condition has existed. If it was my car I would go for the complete rebuild, with new pads. Lastly, $1800.00 seems excessive, have you priced around?

Rebuilding calipers is really easy, replacing the inner seals as well, but the boots just pop off with a small flat blade screwdriver

Here are some options, Centric may sell them direct too

Dam those are destroyed.

Rebuilding ...especially replacing just he outer boot should not be difficult.

Here's a pre-owned set.

I put a set of the racing brake boots in a few years ago, they are definitely holding up better than OEM. If you are going to replace, I wouldn't suggest OEM.

I don’t know that it’s even a problem if the dust boots are cracked: as long as the pistons aren’t cracked.

If you track, these crack. End of story.

The outer seals are not important. They are so unimportant that good BBK kits such as Brembo GTS and higher don’t even run them.

If you never track, and live where you drive on a lot of unsealed surfaces, then run them. If you track, they just going to crack again and again and again. So up grade to a kit designed without them.
