the Turbo is the correct comparo.
just this is spot on: "If you open up the deck lid that used to provide access to the engine in previous 911s all you see are some engine covers and fluid fill points. In this 911, the mechanical pieces are all buried. And that sucks."
why porsche? why?

Interesting observation I've not read before:
What is annoying is the small driver's footwell that seems optimized for two-pedal operation in PDK-equipped 911s. In the three-pedal manual transmission car, the driver's legs feel crammed over toward the centerline.
Can someone else who has driven or sat in a manual 991 confirm this (particularly for those of us over 6 feet with bigger feet)?

i dont agree. in fact i dont think P really makes a model directly comparable to the R8 V10- not the TT S or the GT cars. Of course just my opinion.
One thing prob most will agree with is the stick in the 997 blows away the r8s. I think the P stick is wonderful.

Love that R8 - a true exotic for a "reasonable" price, and with limited production they seem to hold their value very well.
Reasons why I'm buying the 991:
- brand new design vs 5 year old design
- perfected PDK vs clunky single automated clutch
- much cheaper unless you go nuts optioning an S
- 25MPG or so vs less than 20 + gas guzzler stigma
- rear seats
- doesn't scream excess consumption!
Still...that R8 is gorgeous!

Every time I have the urge for an R8, I remember the 1st generation Audi TT. Styling so "of the moment" and gorgeous at the time, but now it looks "off" somehow. Almost all 911's look really beautiful to me (sorry 996) and it makes me think the newer models will have the staying power too.
