Default Escort Passport 9500ci

Just curious …. Does anyone have the Escort Passport 9500ci installed….would love to hear your experience with this detector. Does it work well? Recommendations of other brands? Thanks!

I'm having my second 9500ci install today - had one on a 997.2 and this one going into the 991. Nothing but good things to say about the product as long as it is installed correctly (laser shifters are not upside down and all that). For me it simply worked. Others may tell you that you need different shifters and that the escort's don't work well, but in my experience, I have gotten lasered by the motorcycle enforcement here in Seattle and with the 9500ci, no problems (yet). The gps traffic camera database is nice also and the radar warnings have always been sufficient (for me).

OP - I have had the Escort 9500iX since 2010 and it is a great radar detector. Saved me many times! The GPS, red light warnings and radar/laser warnings work very well.

Nicoli35 - that is a VERY sharp install in your 991, I'd like to look into that for my 991 as well, can you provide more detail and the cost? thx!

Thanks a lot - the photos are curtesy of Benchmark Motoring in Seattle - they are of a different install (not my 991, I have a manual) but this is where they will install mine also. Benchmark is a great shop and I recommend their expertise to anyone. It costs more than having someone else do the install (roughly double the 9500ci unit cost) but the trade-off is that they do not damage my car and they do the job right. They have an extremely capable technical staff and do all sorts of high-end solutions for custom *anything* related to automobiles. A Lamborghini Gallardo is parked in their waiting room and they have their own fabrication machines, etc. My last install they fabricated a display underneath the rearview mirror but I prefer something more in my direct line of sight for the display as I have music up on the highway sometimes and also I like to see the speed readout from the 9500ci and compare it to the Porsche readout.

I have an 8500ci installed. No rear laser and no gps. Neither are a problem in Pennsylvania as there are no laser (really IR) detectors other than beams across highways.

the detector is behind the front bumper and the control unit is in the coin tray.

Very effective on all radar bands.

I have had a 8500 since 2004 and added a 9500ix in 2010, and since added escort live! To the 9500. Escort and valentine are the best overall, at least that seems to be the consensus. My detectors savE me from at least one ticket per week.?..escort live is the best use of social network ever used, IMO. Very cool service to contribute to.

Thanks guys for the info…glad it works well ... I may have to treat myself and get one installed.

Nicoli35 that is a great looking installation thanks for taking the time to post photos. I was a little worried that it would look “added on” but that looks like a quality installation.

I live in Virginia and here radars are ilegal, but I was wondering do Porsche deales install Radar detectors? Does installing a radar detectot voids any kind of warranty? Any dealer close to Virginia that you know are good installing RDs? Is it illegal for a car dealer in Virginia to install a RD, or is only illegal to sell or operate a RD?

Are the laser shifters visible on the outside of the car?

While I am only licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts and would never ever provide you with an opinion as to the law of the great Commonwealth of Virginia, it seems that you can own it but not use it, here is what I found:

VA ST § 46.2-1079

§ 46.2-1079 Radar detectors; demerit points not to be awarded.

A. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate a motor vehicle on the highways of the Commonwealth when such vehicle is equipped with any device or mechanism, passive or active, to detect or purposefully interfere with or diminish the measurement capabilities of any radar, laser, or other device or mechanism employed by law-enforcement personnel to measure the speed of motor vehicles on the highways of the Commonwealth for law-enforcement purposes. It shall be unlawful to use any such device or mechanism on any such motor vehicle on the highways. It shall be unlawful to sell any such device or mechanism in the Commonwealth. However, provisions of this section shall not apply to any receiver of radio waves utilized for lawful purposes to receive any signal from a frequency lawfully licensed by any state or federal agency.

This section shall not be construed to authorize the forfeiture to the Commonwealth of any such device or mechanism. Any such device or mechanism may be taken by the arresting officer if needed as evidence, and, when no longer needed, shall be returned to the person charged with a violation of this section, or at that person's request, and his expense, mailed to an address specified by him. Any unclaimed devices may be destroyed on court order after six months have elapsed from the final date for filing an appeal.

Except as provided in subsection B of this section, the presence of any such prohibited device or mechanism in or on a motor vehicle on the highways of the Commonwealth shall constitute prima facie evidence of the violation of this section. The Commonwealth need not prove that the device or mechanism in question was in an operative condition or being operated.

B. A person shall not be guilty of a violation of this section when the device or mechanism in question, at the time of the alleged offense, had no power source and was not readily accessible for use by the driver or any passenger in the vehicle.

C. This section shall not apply to motor vehicles owned by the Commonwealth or any political subdivision thereof and used by law-enforcement officers in their official duties, nor to the sale of any such device or mechanism to law-enforcement agencies for use in their official duties.

D. No demerit points shall be awarded by the Commissioner for violations of this section. Any demerit points awarded by the Commissioner prior to July 1, 1992, for any violation of this section shall be rescinded and the driving record of any person awarded demerit points for a violation of this section shall be amended to reflect such rescission.

From experience, this basically means that you cannot operate or be able to operate a radar detector or laser jammer. If the device is turned off but can be turned on by the driver they can still ticket you. VA State Police are actively enforcing this. Best to use the 9500ci, Redline or similar detector with no oscillator leakage. V1 is no longer an option.

V1 leaks?

Not an issue in CA, but are there states where cops will stop people under "suspicion" and then sweep with a detector-detector?
