For those that have upgraded from a GT3 or a GTS....
For those that have upgraded to 991S from a GT3 or a GTS.....
I am interested in hearing from the guys that have gone from either a GT3 or GTS to a 991S I daily drove a 07 GT3 for 37k miles or so and am ready to get something else. I am looking at an 11 GTS PDK or a 991S PDK. For those of you that have had these cars what do you recommend and why? What are the major differences? Do you miss your GT3 or GTS? Any regrets in the move from either car? I will test drive both cars, but I really want to hear from the guys who have made the switch and have put a few miles on their 991 to really have a good idea of how they feel about their move. Thanks so much for the feedback.

I have both 991S and 997.1 GT3RS. In my opinion, both cars are fantastic. I think the 991 is a better daily driver because of higher ground clearance, PDK, and more creature comfort. The PASM with PDCC makes it glide over rough pavement so effortlessly, but still have a tons of grip. I know because I have driven the 991 on the track at Thunderhill and Laguna Seca multiple times. It's also much quieter.
GT3RS, on the other hand, is more raw. The lightweight flywheel chatters at idle, there's more tire noise from the back, and despite my best efforts, the front lip has kissed the pavement multiple times. I simply gave up caring about the front lip. But the steering wheel feedback is so magical, and turn-in is more immediate. The 3.6L GT1 motor is something to behold, more raw and more alive, when you take it all way to 8400 RPM. In 6th gear it can accelerate so fast on the freeway it's amazing.
Downside for me is that the RS's clutch is heavy and the shifter is notchy, and could be painful stuck in traffic.
So depends on what you want out of the car. The RS is my track car, and the 991 is my daily.

While I have not owned a GT3, I do own a 991s w/7mt that I have used as my daily driver in the North Atlanta area for 10k miles since June. It makes for a perfect daily driver IMHO. If were buying a track car, I would consider PDK. But, for a daily driver, nothing beats a three pedal car to help bring a little fun to an otherwise boring commute.

wait 6 months and get the 991 GT3... 4 months till debut.
i went from 997.1-> 997.2 and noticed a difference and loved it..
went from 997.2 ->991 and noticed a lot of flaws and "softening" of the car to make it please "the other half" ..
991 GT3 will be amazing however.. all the great stuff and none of the softness.

So for the time being you would go with the GTS over the 991?

that's a tough one.
07 GT3 is fun and raw, right now only thing better would be a 10' GT3 to me.
so 10' GT3>> 07 GT3 (some might disagree because less raw experience on 10' but i like it)
GTS is a great car, but you're killing yourself with depreciation on a model that was solely developed to jump start sales before the end of a cycle (same as the black edition... leftover parts assembled to get rid of stock and sell cars before killing a model).. i would never jump back to a "fire sale" model.. but would jump back to a GT model because they will always be sought after as the last great GT before the new chassis many purists dislike.
if money is not a concern and being impatient not a concern.. wait for the 991 GT3.. i have been on the list since before my 991 even came and all the facts i get from my buddy who works for Porsche in germany.. makes me salivate.... it's going to be just as raw as the 07'... lighter... faster... and wait till you hear it...
the OG old engine guys will be upset... but the 997.2 GT3/ or 4.0 guys will be on board i feel.. the lap times are going to be unreal... and if you thought the 997.2 TT was quick you're in for a shock.
that being said i have 130k sitting aside right now in the 991 GT3 fund... and it's gonna be the best money ever spent... being behind the wheel will be sublime.... nothing for 130k can say that... the next car as badass will be like 180-220k.
those are my opinions 100%..
goodluck w/ the hunt...
maybe jump into a 997.2 GT3 for the time being, when the new GT comes out it will pull a "murcielago effect" as i call it.. meaning... murci's slumped to 80k.... the aventador comes out and nobody wants to spend 500k on a v12 lambo... so they all hunt for murci's and now murci's jump 50% because it's the only affordable v12 lambo.
just like how 997.2's jumped when 4.0's came out.. could get a 10' GT3 for under 100k at one point (non RS, non PCCB) and they shot up... and now are steady... buy one now and when 991 GT3 comes out.. guarantee they'll pop up 5-10k because the cost to get into a 991 GT3 will be 130k+++++++++++options and all dealer stock will be presold or 160k-180k stickers.. making 997.2's look mighty delicious.
again, my speculation... but my speculation is generally spot on (with exception to my 08 gallardo speculation in 09... shoulda/woulda/coulda for 80k when the beverly hills lambo scandal killed the market because the dealer sold em all short and fled the country.

Hi rijovysock,
completely agree on this one:
"just like how 997.2's jumped when 4.0's came out.. could get a 10' GT3 for under 100k at one point (non RS, non PCCB) and they shot up... and now are steady... buy one now and when 991 GT3 comes out.. guarantee they'll pop up 5-10k because the cost to get into a 991 GT3 will be 130k+++++++++++options and all dealer stock will be presold or 160k-180k stickers.. making 997.2's look mighty delicious"
PS: 991 GT3 will be available for less than 150K..

Won't be here on the ground until the fall. You'll have to wait a little longer.

I went from a '11 RS 997.2 to a 991s Cabriolet with a PDK. I didn't have the time to drive the RS where it belongs... On the track... Daily driving in the RS was not a practical option so I will get rid of my Infiniti M56s and just use the 991S. This is my first auto tranny Porsche which is tough to digest but man is this car comfortable..., not looking back only up! Oh, there's nothing like a perfect heel & toe going into a corner either..., I do miss that.! ALOT...
