Default am I the only one starting to really dislike the 991

I've had the car for about 2500 miles, I'm liking it less and less - it is a beautiful, fast car with many amazing features - but it is just huge - I didn't realize how gigantic the car was but I can barely get it into my driveway, and all those features make it "just a car" - I'm finding that I think about it just like a regular rental car - and that's not a good thing - I can press the sports button and go very fast, but it's just not fun like my 993 was, or like a 944, or even my 356. It lost the special "S" type front rubber lip the second day, it fell off every time I went into my driveway or many other driveways, so I bought a non "S" rubber lip (I don't think the car is an S, it just had the lip that does not have the separate retainer) - that is better engineered and it stayed on. I can't pull into many parking spaces because the car is too wide.

it has me thinking I should just sell the car back to the dealer and take the loss and be done with the darned thing..... grumble grumble - I'm seriously tempted to go back to the 356 or my Morgan +4 - those are nice small light cars without all the features (well, without any features...) or maybe my 944

what do you guys think?

A clear "sell!" from my side .... I recommend a Mini Cooper S .... no problems with size anymore ....

My C4S arrives on February 2013 by the way .... and even my wife doesn´t fear the parking ....

Best

Default 991

William, I do not understand your problem with the 991. Maybe because you are used to driving smaller cars you say this. I previously drove a large SUV so for me this is also like driving a mini cooper now. I find the 991 very easy to park, am always careful when entering or leaving a driveway to avoid damage to the lip.

General driving in the 991 is amazing, love the jekyll and hyde persona when sport or sport plus activated. This car is no longer or wider than a C class mercedes for instance. When you need it to be brutish it is.

The more I drive it the more I love it! The more I drive it the more I want to drive it!

William, I have to ask; what you been smoking?

Surely before slapping down upwards of $100K for a car you got a pretty reasonable idea of what you were buying? You drove it more than just around the block? You maybe even parked it a few times? That's one hundred thousand United States dollars you've spent.....

This car is barely bigger (I think longer by 5cm) than the outgoing 997 which has been around for eight years. The dimensions of the 991 can't have (certainly should not have) come as a 'quelle suprise!' moment for you.

I understand perfectly that all cars are not for all people and with Porsches, this is particularly so. But, but....your post, unfortunately, and I guess unfairly, makes you look like a guy who saw a picture in a magazine and said "Wow, I'd like one of those!" and then bought it. I doubt you are that person but back to my first point; you spent $100+ without checking it out properly?

It all makes perfectly sense -- if the T.C. would talk about his Panamera...

991 is compact and tiny, especially compared to other GT/sports cars like Ferrari 458, BMW 6 series or SLS.

Maybe you need a bigger driveway.

Life is short, if you don't like it, trade it for something else.

Getting my Porsche in tight driveways is part of the privilege of having an amazing piece of machinery !! Maybe try a Toyota 4x4 ? :P

suggest to make sure the mini cooper fits in your garage before buying otherwise you will have to trade down to a moped

If you do not like it, sell it and move on.

The all new mini cooper should come out sometime this year, you can keep your 991 and wait for the cooper

Sometimes people are just having a bad day and it's all about the moment when you post this...
Or maybe he's just being ironical or trying to stir things up...?
If you really want to create a controversy post this in the 997 forum, not to mention if you post it in the ' last true Porsche ' 993 forum! In those 2 forums you'll get at least 20 pages!
Anyway,I don't blame or judge, sometimes people cope harder with new technology and new things in general...looking at the cars you're talking about...Morgan,993,944,I can see why you're having second thoughts about the 991...
Good luck either way...maybe you'll change your mind in the future...

The cheery 18 yo barista who I see every other day was just complaining to me about how her dad bought her a big used lincoln town car and just how hard it was to park that thing. Perhaps you should swap cars with her for a week. I am sure she will have no objections....
