Default 2014 Corvette

Anybody consider this? I am looking at the new specs on the all new car and I have to say its much improved just doing a quick overview.
With this stupid sequestration coming up we are looking at taking a 10% cut in pay or higher (do you think Congress or the Senate will take a hit in pay?) but with my wife being a Naval Scientist, she is looking at a 20% cut for this year.
So just a quick glance you get 450 HP 0-60 times in the 3.8 range in the BASE car fitted with the performance package. I think it looks better than the last model and you are looking at $75K probably vs the C4S I was looking at a ballsy 140K.
So with all this my choices are, Keep my 997.2 C2S, probably now around 60% possibility, buy the 2014 C4S 30% and the Vette coming in at a 10% .
I drove a 2009 Z06 and the ZR1 and neither one of them matched up with the 2009 PDK S. But the Vette has raised its game and deserves to be in the conversation, and worth a visit to your dealer. Still faced with:
Having to deal with a Chevy dealer whom in my experience is up there with the Tree sloth and orangutan in intelligence and having a GM mechanic work on your close to 100K car. So you have to factor that in. Just remembering my last visit to see the 2009 Z06 puts the Vette at a 3% chance. I went in with a 2009 AMG C63 with 1200 miles to look at a 2009 Z06 with 3400 miles (new but the salesman were taking it to golf and had left the windows down in a rain storm and had ruined the leather dash) and the MSRP was 81K (and I knew there were 08s on the lots in the US going for 58K) and he wanted $85K for the Vette and was going to give me 41K for the Merc that wholesaled at 55 at the time.
Needless to say I wadded up the sales sheet and walked out. THis after I told them I have bought several new high end cars and didnt want to play the games you have to to buy a Chevy malibu. But they still thought I was an idiot.
( I may have been an idiot just for actualy GOING to that stupid dealer in the first place)

But if you are looking at a new 911 I think the Z51 Vette at that price probably deserves a test drive or at least a look. I took my 997.2 for a long drive yesterday and man it is STILL a great car!!

I`d go with the C7. Much better bang for the buck and it really has started looking good. The performance versions will only be better and still way under prices compared with the a 991S.

The only thing I dont like right now is the Camaro rear end. I havent been in one yet, but FINALLY the seats look like sport car seats and they have a sport seat option. They look 1000% better. Their old seats were worse than bucket seats in the Silverado. Porsche seats are still better.

i think it looks great, put a deposit down when i first saw pics.. really impressed.. and surprised i can use that word on an american vehicle.

I had much the same reservations about the Ford GT -- dealing with taking a veritable super-car to a Ford dealer and lining up for service with mini-vans. I'm sure most dealership employees are reasonable and honest folks, but you have to imagine your "odds" of less than ideal handling skyrocket compared to a typical Porsche or Ferrari dealer with "just another" RS coming through the door.

That said, I did have an awful experience of discovering my new car had been taken by the dealership "marketing" people and run up 5 or 10 miles without mention to me. When their "work" had revealed itself -- knowing this particular type of 911 was in hot demand -- they simply said "okay, don't want it?" over the phone, then promptly followed up with email that day demanding payment as if I had become the problem in the deal. It was pretty clear this was not their first time in this situation.

I think the outgoing ZR1 and the track-oriented versions of the Z06 are impressive (and as quick or quicker than the RS 4.0 around Laguna) and other Porsche friends enjoy them as "slumming it" at the track.

This new one is over the top in appearance for my tastes and still far short of the mark in cabin trim, but I can deal with the "not quite a Ferrari F12" appearance and at the end of the day, a track car only, the cabin is no impediment.

It will all come down to the driving.

I'll wait for them to build a few thousands of the thing and for prices to give up the first $10K discounts.

If the Z06 (or whatever?) comes along, perhaps it's simply a more enjoyable track car than a 991 GT3 – I think we have to consider that as a likely scenario. Strange days.

The engineering team reported that they bought one car during the development. If they got as close to the 991 driving and interior quality feel as they aimed, it should be interesting.

Adam could you clarify what they did to WHAT car? your RS or Ford GT? They drove it after you committed to it?

I think because of your terrific business and auto acumen you are putting all these cars on the same playing field regardless of price. The base C7 is in the $50K the 991 RS is going to be horribly expensive if a C4S is $145K. The ONLY reason I put these two cars in the same conversation is because the playing field is leveled by
the almost $100K less price tag.

Probably whats going to happen is I will keep my 997.2 S because its quite a different animal than a 991. and thats not a bad thing

I had a C5 and a C6 before my 997 and 991. Great cars for the money. I'm sure the C7 is better. It'll probably still blow the doors off most comparable 911's on the straight. And it probably still looses ground on turns. As for looks, the back end is a bit Camero-like. Not for the good. Again a good car. Main summary comparison between the two - one is a Chevy the other is a Porsche.

I for one really like the new Corvette (except for the rear end.) But for some reason no matter how fast it is.. No matter how well it handles.. No matter what a value it is.. I just can never see myself driving a Corvette. I really can't explain why... It's like trying to explain to a non sports fan why you like a certain team and hate another..Makes no sense....But I will always have a Porsche..I can't explain that either...

Who the heck approved that rear end on the C7? While I'm at it who the heck approved the badging on the 991? It wasn't the designers I'll tell you that much...

I think the designers must have been the ones demanding de-badging as an option. I thank them.

Well, I used to think that too! Then we got to race against Corvettes in the 1985-1986 SCCA/Escort (formerly Playboy) Endurance Championship and had our asses handed to us! We were running factory supplied brand new 944 Turbos set up for racing! We had more hp than them on the straights...but they ran around us on the turns! Their tire set up was superior to ours too. We kept telling Weissach that the Corvettes were beating us and they couldn't believe it. But the Germans gave us nothing that was able to make up for the difference! On the other hand, GM was supplying all the Corvette teams (Rippie Anderson, Baker Racing, Morrison-Cook) with 'special' parts for each race. Interestingly, they were able to pass Tech Scrutineering with them, although I doubt you could have found these parts on any of your local dealer's stock Corvettes! One of the teams even had John Heinricy as a driver! He was the assistant chief engineer for the Corvette and later a Director of the GM Performance Division! Bottom line - GM wanted to win and Porsche engineers thought they were entitled to win! Big difference. Guess who at the end turned out to be successful?
