New Car (Pic!), Long Trip Advice
Took delivery of my 2013 C2S last Saturday. Amazing, amazing car. Pic of mine (Agate Grey PDK) with my brother's (DBM Manual) is below.
Anyway, I'm looking for some advice. I have to take a little bit of a road trip this coming weekend (~250 mi., mostly highway), and as I understand it, you're supposed to avoid driving at a constant speed/constant revs for a long time while still in the break-in period. Is it really that bad to drive at a constant speed during break-in? Is there anything I can do during a few hundred miles of highway driving to protect the engine? Appreciate any thoughts.

did 1400 miles the day after i got mine, it's honestly not a big deal.. just pass some trucks and downshift for hills and you'll vary the rev's enough...
i'd just say dont use cruise control.. and just drive.. traffic will naturally slow and speed up and you'll pass and take exits and such.. but cruise control would be what they dont want you to use. (exact speed, exact rev, exact load)

New Boxster
I just bought a new 2013 Boxster and had a 200 mile drive home. As mentioned above, the flow of traffic will force you to vary your speed and engine load. Also as mentioned, don't use the cruise control and you'll be fine.

Yes, it definitely is considered bad to hold steady RPM for extended periods during the break-in, especially right off the lot. I drove mine 160 miles straight from the dealership to my home on the freeway. I just varied between 4th and 6th and varied the speed from 55 to 75 about a couple of dozen times over the course of the ride. I would use 7th going on slight downgrades but you don't want to lug the car at all so I avoided 7th for any acceleration or even slight-upgrade and similarly, was careful not to lug in any gear from 3rd to 6th (i.e., for RPMs below 2,500 I was either very light on the gas in those gears or downshifted).

Burning Brakes
I picked my 991S Cab up last Friday. When on the highway I just go from normal, sport and sport + to get the various rev ranges. Change every few minutes or so (car is PDK). Easy to do.

I'm sure this has been covered ad nauseum in many threads, but I thought sport plus(doesn't shift until close to redline) was verboten in the recommended break-in procedure.

I suppose, but then I wouldn't bother with the sport plus if I'm not going over 4 or 5k rpm during break-in. The sport mode adapts to driving style at the time, varies shift points based on how aggressively you accelerate, etc. My understanding is the sport plus is not adaptive - always runs rpms to redline -500 before shifting in auto mode.
