Default Auto restart feature?

Managed to stall the engine today as I was attempting to pull away from a stop (7MT). Initial reactions were to depress the clutch pedal and reach for the key to recycle off then on. Much to my surprise, the engine relit as soon as I depressed the clutch - no off then on required for the key. The auto Start/Stop function was disabled at the time.

It appears that somehow the auto Start/Stop function remained active in spite of being selected Off. Curious.

The auto-start stop button only turns off the stop start at traffic lights. It will always re-start if you stall it.

Just curious. I don't have PDK - How do you stall it?

It's a feature. In my MT I ... umm... discovered this feature. On purpose, I swear.

Has anyone ever heard of this feature failing? It makes me nervous when I pull up to intersections and the engine stops. (I like the idea, I just worry it won't restart with the battery still draining through it all.)

I have PDK and use start-stop all the time. I've had it stall once (no incline) and "almost" twice (incline) with the feature turned on. I don't worry about it but it is annoying when it happens.

FWIW - When I had a manual p-car I stalled occassionally and just got used to restarting. The people in back of me rarely honk....maybe they just laugh. Luckily I don't care so much.

As long as the sport/sport plus modes are shut off the 991 will shut off when idling and restart once a gear is selected...pronto.

autorestart, grrrr. I alway disable this. Yesterday after one of my break in drives in sportmode I arrived at the house, waiting for the gates and garagedoors to open. Thought to myself, mmmmm, I'll switch off sport mode now, so I have a less sensitive throttle to park backwards into my garage and less noise. Bang, auto off. I don't want that during break in.
Fortunately no neighbours around to laugh at me "stalling" the poseur car ;-)

This feature can be programmed through PIWIS. Code 785 is always on (default), 786 always off, and 787 is to remembered last position. I did 786 as somehow the car does not response to 787 in my case.

Oh goodness! It isn't going to hurt the car!

To OP: I noticed this same behavior on a test drive when my salesman stalled it. We were both quite surprised. Nice to read that this is a feature. Handy for when (if) I try (again) to teach my fiance to drive a stick.

Quick Reply: Auto restart feature?
