Actually found a statement from GM that a loaded Z06 would be "under $100k". Thats right about the historic ratio of high perf. Vette to high perf. Pcar. They have both crawled up but not much considering inflation.

The image factor is the main reason most of you have turned your noses up. I also assume you don;t track your cars (which is fine - most don't). I do find it funny that you are unable to acknowledge that GM has done something significant with the new Corvette.

I sense more arrogance typical of Porsche owners than a true sense of what GM has accomplished with the new Corvette.

I love it and would be proud to share space with my 911 and Audi R8 all day long.

The Vette being faster doesn't bother me a bit. There will always be something faster. If it were strictly about speed/power, I would have bought a ZR1.

Fortunately, there's more to it than that.

Well, here is the thing. I think that GM has done a great job with the new Corvette. Also, there is NO doubt the Z07 offers huge performance and would destroy my 911/50. But, I don't track my car and the speed limit is 100 Km/Hr (60 mph). On it's own, I can still do 0-60 in 3.9 secs/188 mph.So I have do ask myself....Can I ever use more power? The answer for me is NO......I already can't use anywhere near the power I have. I didn't consider a TT/S of GT3 for the same reason. So for me I had to go past just the brute force. As a daily driver I have to believe that my car is far more livable and practical. I also believe that my car will be much smoother with a hugely better build quality. Lastly, and I apologize for this, but the 991 has just massive amounts more cache/image than a Vette. So, if you race your car the Z07 is a great car.....just not for me. I just can't get my head around what most people think about Vette drivers. I'm sure it's mostly untrue but none-the-less.......

I have owned a few Corvettes and they were good cars and fun to drive. The reason I went away from them (10 years ago so may not be all true now) is that I was in the shop way too often. I also hated dealing with the sales experience. I was not even allowed to drive the last one (C6) I tried to trade for until I made a deposit. With my 911 the sales man passed the keys to three cars to help me decide on what I wanted, base S or 4S. He said to drive each 20-30 minutes to make sure what I wanted. When done he asked if I wanted one overnight to make sure.

Service - Well to take the same Corvette back at least twice for each item was too much. One was in the shop 9 times in a year and the second one 6 times in 9 months before I sold it and was treated like the problems were my fault.

I switched to Lexus and was very pleased with service and support until I got into Porsche and they make Lexus seem ordinary.

Not one issue with my 911 in three months. I know three months is not very long but the Corvettes were each in multiple times by now.

PCC, your post (maybe not necessarily your actual thoughts) is to compare the porsche to the corvette on terms of value based on performance. is that your point? then yes, there is more value to the corvette. you'd have to be stupid to think otherwise. also, since you are making your observation public, you are requesting input...my answer is who cares about your point? i don't mean that in the disrespectful fashion but rather that you are trying to make a point that is consistent with someone who is trying to justify buying a corvette over a porsche. you're on a porsche forum. i am going to be paying north of $135,000 for a vehicle i can really only drive 4-5 months out of the year. they may be great cars but value they certainly are not. thanks for the obvious observation. you sound like my wife . ultimately, to each their own but frankly i don't care if you think they're poor value because cars in general are $hit investments. its what you attach to it that counts.

I was just shopping for a new car and did a lot of research and considered the Corvette, the R8, the M5/M6, and the RS7 before finally settling on the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S.

I think that a car is a tool for a job you're trying to do. For me I was looking for a car that was fun to drive (which for me means a manual transmission), could fit enough luggage for a weekend trip, was reliable and that had an improvement performance over my existing car, which I also really like (M roadster).

The problem with the R8 was the lack of space for a weekend trip. The RS7 didn't have a MT, so it wouldn't be fun. The bmw cars all looked great on paper, but weren't fun to drive even though they were fast and had great tech. The Corvette is a great car that was my 2nd choice as it included things not in the Porsche like rev matching as standard, heads up display and a backup camera. It's also fun to drive and seemed well built, so I applaud the improvements. The main problem was getting it serviced at the Chevy dealership and the visibility wasn't as good as the Porsche. Plus the Porsche just had a better intangible feel to me. However, I could see someone buying any of these cars depending on what they're looking for in a car.
