I actually ordered a highly optioned 981S PDK and drove it against the C2 cab with 7MT and just had to have the 911. I was fortunate the dealer was so accommodating.

I have 500 miles on it and love the 7MT and the bigger interior. Also less road noise IMO.

I really like my 7 speed MT. But I am really hoping this improves after break-in and gets better with more miles. I'm still under 2,000. Sounds like it will from owners above.

I am very familiar with manuals. I think I just need more seat time and miles. Part of it is probably muscle memory and getting accustomed to the high stick position of the redesigned center console of the 991.

I am mostly struggling/stumbling with the gates on some upshifts and downshifts in the 4th, 5th and 6th gears.

I use my 7th gear any time I'm above 65 or so, why wouldn't you?
Last weekend, I took my 991 up to Austin for the MotoGP at COTA, light traffic on the way up going 80-90 most of the way yielded 27.8mpg. I think that's impressive considering what else the car can do.

Fuel economy is an important performance consideration of any car...

I just test drove a BMW with 6 speed manual transmission over the weekend. It made me appreciate how fantastic the 7 speed manual is in my 991S. I was so disappointed in the BMW manual.

Which BMW did you drive? I test drove an M5 with a manual and I really wanted to like it (incredibly fast, lots of cool tech toys, room for 4), but the manual didn't feel right. On the other hand in the 2000 M roadster the manual is nearly perfect. Very short, quick shifts that are a lot of fun.

I'm really hoping the 7MT in the 991 is as good or better than in the roadster.

Went from a 997 6MT to an M3 6MT and then the 991 7MT. M3 was notchy and grinding a lot. Clutch was terrible. 997 was great. My 991 has 1800 miles and is terrific but grinds a little going into second when cold. It goes away after the car warms up. It is the best manual and clutch ever and I like the hill holder too.
