Sunroof Shade Allows Too Much Heat Into Cabin
Hello all..
Need a suggestion on what to do here.. on my new 991 the retractable shade that Porsche has used is so thin that you can see through it during the day. The unfortunate thing is that it allows a massive amount of heat to come into the cabin during the day, heat so intense that even if you blast the A/C your head is still on fire. On really hot days it actually feels like as though there's no shade at all. Seems like a poor design considering the reason for a shade is because you DON'T want to be sitting in direct sunlight.
Has anybody seen any aftermarket shades which i can replace the factory one with?

I am having all glass roof and other windows tinted next week with prestige spectra photo sync film for the heat reducing benefits. I will report back on results.

That's what I used in 100% of the glass in my car including the glass on the roof. My car never gets that hot, even in full sun. It's a great product.

I assume there are no limits on the % for the top.
Hope putting film in will solve most of your issue. I initially ordered my 991 with glass sunroof too but luckily I read on the internet before the freeze date that it gets really hot in warm climates so I cancelled this option (which was not a bad choice living here in Dubai). IMO Porsche dealers should be more aware of this shortcoming and warn customers who are considering this option.

are there any warranty implications with filming the sunroof? i know that typically warranty transfers from the manufacturer of the glass (in our case, lets just say Porsche) to the film provider but its always a grey area.

Yes. But technically it's not the sunroof that's the issue, it's the shade. For some reason (which is beyond me..) they've decided to use a shade that's so thin you can see through it during the day. I can actually look up with the sunroof AND shade closed and see a very dark version of what's above me.

it definitely could be darker. in hindsight i would have skipped the sunroof (although it does help the buffeting)
