Base stereo in a Cab?

Base stereo in a Cab?
So I have another week or so to lock my order details and so I would like to get some opinions and thoughts.
I started out thinking I would pick up a low mile 997.2 Cab then i decided to just look for a 991 Cab with low miles. After finding that most CPO Cabs with my specs were 95K plus I decided to place an order. I first spec'd a 991Cab 7MT and then decided to move up to an 991S Cab and drop a few options instead.
The dropped options were PSE, Sport Chrono, Bose and Silver Seat Belts. After getting the allocation for my 991S Cab - I decided (thanks RL) that I need to add back in the PSE.
The question now is on a lightly optioned 991S Cab - do I need to add back in Bose? Here is how I will use the car.
- i mostly listen to talk radio on Sirius through the iPhone app via USB (I checked and the base system works fine)
- i will drive the car with PSE engaged and top down
- I play music once in a while i imagine with PSE and top down even the Burm system would have difficulty created great sound
- any music I play will be either radio or streaming app, Songza, Pandora, Sirius

Top down with PSE. No Bose required. Enjoy. If it's in your budget, add it.

Is there such a thing as radio delete in these cars ? For ref, the new Crutchfield catalog has some pretty sweet head units that will fit our cars that look awesome with a s_ _t load of features. Recently spent some time in a friends Burmeister w/system and was not overly impressed.02 T

This is the first time I have ever heard that someone was not impressed with the Bur.

The funny thing is depending on how I look at it - I am over "budget" by about $60K for my fun car. But when you look at the total price tag hovering around $120k you do think whats another $2K. This forum is very dangerous.

I would say stock radio which is 235 watts is good enough. Good call on the PSE I think it's a must have for open top cars. I started out like you looking at 90k CPOs and ended up ordering too. The way I saw it it's a once in a decade or more decision so spending an extra 20-30k in the grand scheme was worth it.

Fact is it's not just another 2k over the base system. It's $ 5290 for the Bur system. Turbo & Turbo S are an additional $ 3500 extra. Not sure what the GT3's are. Just sayin. T

The base stereo will do everything the Bose will do. Except give you slightly better sound quality and a sub.
If you are a cab guy and are getting PSE for sure and have never spent 10k on a McIntosh tube amp for your home, don't bother with the Bose. I'm that McIntosh, Nakamichi guy but when it comes to the car it's just not worth the extra coin. I still have my hearing and the base doesn't bother me one bit. I have an iPod plugged into the globe USB & stream Bluetooth from my phone and don't mind the quality or lack of.
Spent a day in a Panny loaner with the Bose and it didn't do anything for me either. With the top down the world is your symphony. The PSE will complete you.

Op, you listen to XM over app so won't be ordering XM + HD radio? I ask because that combination is $1150 and Bose package includes this so it's really $1000 more not the $2150.
However if you are skipping those 2 then...
Does the XM app work as good as the car radio? Probably even better as the phone nav is easier than the car's nav! I guess the only caveat is you don't get satellite radio in the boonies when you rely on cell signal?

Bose is a terrible stereo with top up, completely worthless when topless. PSE sounds great all the time. No XM radio (car or phone app) since it cuts out in most hilly terrain or mountains roads in PNW (boonies).

I agree that listening to music with the top down doesn't require a great audio system. However, if this is your first Porsche I will tell you what I have learned driving my first Porsche - you don't know what you will really want until you have your own. By that I mean the following: I got a great deal on my car and it was basically what I wanted - a manual trans cab. Now that I have had it almost two years I have learned what I don't have and would definitely require in any future Porsche. So make sure that you thoroughly research what you want before you finalize your decision. BTW: I would want PSE and the 18 way seats plus I would really like the full leather interior and I would buy a well cared for used car rather than a new car if that was what I needed to do to get them.

I have a very lightly optioned 991S Cab (2014). Bought it new from dealer stock so didn't have a choice of options and the deal was too good to pass up. Only options on my car are Agate Grey, Colored Wheel Caps, Sport Steering Wheel and Sport Chrono.
Having owned the car now since March, I would say the base radio is adequate, but not as good as the one on my Toyota Tundra and not even in the same league as my wife's Audi SQ5. First off, its not HD and has no XM/Sirius module. That's ridiculous on a car that costs over $ 100K. That alone may be worth an upgrade. Sound is adequate, but not great. Would I spend the money to upgrade it? Probably to the Burmeister if I did and skip the Bose. My car didn't have PSE but I installed a Tubi exhaust which is WAY better than the Porsche Sports one. Its also $ 4,500. The one thing I really would like to have is the better seats. The stock seats are pretty miserable after a trip of four hours. Sport Chrono is 'fun' but it does put a nasty reflection in the windscreen with the wart on the dash .....
