Escort 9500ci vs Valentine One video review
For any of you thinking about getting the Escort/Passport 9500ci radar/laser jammer system I have done a wee video on my experience so far.
Hope it is helpful

Yes, new highend detector features like gps and laser jamming are great. But as a V1 user for many years I will note the V1 can be programmed to minimize the audible alerts. (X band was disabled on the Escort in the video but not the V1?) Since the V1 does not auto mute, a remote mute switch (available cheap on ebay) is a must have. And the V1's arrows and bogey counter are invaluable to a sophisticated user.
On the downside, my V1 also falses frequently on laser (just too sensitive) and still finds plenty of K-band blindspot equipped car even though I've programmed to ignore. Again, remote mute to the rescue.
Would I buy another V1 - probably not.
What did I put in the Porsche - a cheap Escort 8500, it beeps I coast or brake depending on the situation!

I have Escort 9500cis in my Range and my 991. Plenty of radar range and the GPS lockout is worth much more to me than arrows. I own a Valentine 1. I used it last month to drive a relative's car to Carmax as a favor. I wanted to throw it out the window. Falsing over 90 percent of the time. I just ignored it at some point because I got tired of looking around for LEOs that weren't there when it chirped, squawked, beeped, etc. every 30 seconds.

Some may not know that the Valentine's "bogey" count can be replicated by using the Escort's "Expert Meter" display option. It provides good info but unfortunately not the Valentine's cool directional arrows.

WA State troopers are valedictorians w/instant-on....you have -0- chance. Hoping a car way out in front
gets pinged is your only chance.
The green Chevy pickup coming at you might just be your undoing - you just never know? They have quite a fleet of unmarked generic vehicles.
I seldom speed anymore, but in weak moments my V-1 has saved me.

Great video Nick. Do you always JTG or is there a way to turn the jamming off once detected?
Short of driving around with both in the car (I'm sure they would cause falsing for each other) - would be interested in side by side detection comparison.

Thank you for sharing. I'm done with V1's and looking for 3 new detectors. Trying the 9500 in my M3 at the moment. It is making me hate the V1 even more because the ride is so much more pleasant (quiet).

Nice review Nick but we're way past the days when any detector is worth comparing. In these days of instant on and laser a detector alone is not enough what we need are jammers. Sure the detector is nice but as you showed in the video it was the jammer that helped you avoid contributing to the annual policemen's ball. Or whatever it is they do with the funds they fleece from us with equipment donated to them by insurance companies that know the increased rates from the tickets yields a fat return on their investment in "safety". (Where's RICO when you need it?) What we need are more reviews like these guys who drive right by the guns and see how good the jammers really are. http://www.laserjammertests.com

It is all about situational awareness and the V1 excels at that, clutter (radar term) and non-threat returns included. To be critically aware, one needs to interpret the V1 returns properly and look at the V1 for what it is - a precise measuring instrument. As far as jammers are concerned - they are illegal in several states and I am personally against those from an ethics perspective as they interfere with law enforcement work directly; they are not a defensive tool, rather an offensive/obstructive one.

I've used V1's since 2003. Presently have two, one in a 981 with Blendmount hard wired and one in a Volvo XC70 wagon.
The older one was upgraded recently to new specs.
As technology changes, it's up to the manufacturer to make the changes to thier equipment.
Valentine choses to upgarde your unit while others sell you a new detector.
In the case of Escort, I have two units that are junk, one because they stopped making parts and one because the 'clamshell' design simply kept falling apart.
The situation on the road at the present is that new technolgy for radar assisted cruise control and other Safety features are cluttering up the signals.
I am waiting for Valentine's response but in any event, I now use WAZE as an addition.
Recently on Chicago's Tollways I was passed by a Cayman, I Was locked on 72mph and the Caymon passed me at 80mph, WAZE indicated a stalled vehicle around a long bend where I94 splits to the Edens or to Indiana and points south. I moved from the 'hammer' lane and slowed, as I came around the curve, the 'stalled' car took off in front of me(white unmarked), got behind the Cayman and lit him up. At no time did my V1 go off.
My next step is to contact Valentine and understand how the new technology is affecting my V1 units and what can be done.
With V1's directional arrows you can discard a lot of information but the newer technology is causing so many reports that the V1 is becoming a burden.-Dick

A radar detector alone is not enough, situational awareness is the key indeed, e.g. slowing down on top of the hill, etc. In addition, the V1 does have the best range IMO and it did warn me in time even for Laser threads when the cop was shooting at the cars in front of me.
I used to own a Passport many years ago, it went into the trash in two years when the case was not holding up the mount anymore.
