Might work. If not, it did it's job. Better a film replace than a repaint.

Consider yourself lucky that the 3M did its job! Remember it's a sacrificial layer designed to take one for the team.

I had 3M on my last car and took a rock that cut the film and hurt the paint. I now use XPEL Ultimate.

I use XPEL Ultimate but just had a stone that cut through the Xpel and went trought he paint. It is tiny, so I'll probably just have it touched up (really tiny!). If I didn't have the Xpel it would have been a bigger issue.

You could get a magnifier and a hairdryer, but I'd leave well alone

XPEL and Suntek will self heal. I don't know about 3M. I know that the latest 3m (Pro?) will self heal.

The newest 3M Pro Series is very self healing. A hair dryer or heat gun will soften the film and speed the process.
