991 Drivers - Do you wave or acknowledge other Porsche Drivers?
Hi Everyone,
I had asked this question when I had a 997 GTS, the the response was interesting and I'm hoping to continue the conversation now that I have a 991.
Here's a little background, I was told by a friend of mine that it was kind of a tradition where Porsche Drivers would wave, flash their lights or otherwise acknowledge each other when seeing each other on the road. He usually waved at Porsche drivers and his response was when he was on the East Coast he would get a lot of waves back but not so much on the West Coast.
I, for one have tried doing this almost every time I drive my Porsche (currently 991 GTS) and the response that I've gotten has been lukewarm at best. From my experience only 911 drivers have waved back but infrequently.
I'm just curious if my fellow 991 drivers knew of this "tradition" or even attempted to acknowledge a fellow Porsche driver? Obviously this is all for fun and not meant to be a "must do" but I thought it was pretty cool/fun tradition.
Your feedback is appreciated
Cheers!

lukewarm response, only "enthusiasts" are likely to respond, and those
are a subset of the ownership community.

wave
Yes---I always wave---the closer you get to SoCal--the less frequent the response---I like to think that people are simply paying attention to their lane of travel and not noticing the wave---
My 02 cents---As more people today are driving a Porsche to make a statement and the "garage queen" owners are more prevalent---the less frequent the "Wave Back" becomes.
As much I enjoy the PDK in my current car---this transmission has brought a new type of owner to Porsche.
Cheers

I get more waves from Boxter and Cayman drivers in my 991 than 991 drivers. I don't wave to Panamera, Macan, and Cayenne drivers unless they initiate the wave. 993, 964, and 997 drivers do respond and imitate waves.
Edit: I get waves from non Porsche drivers and Porsche drivers in my GT3. That car get a lot of attention.

I flash or nod or wave as often as I can, and I get about 50% response. The most enthusiastic was from a 356 I flashed from a few hundred yards away, and he was waving, waving, waving until he passed me. I think the owners of older cars appreciate when someone knows the history of the brand, especially when its someone driving a current model car. Trying to keep the roads friendly and fun!

Nope. I've had only one guy wave at me and it caught me off guard. Haven't seen anyone else wave. Ton of Porsches out here though, would get old fast.

I try to wave when possible, but I can confirm that people in Los Angeles rarely wave back. When they do, they tend to be people in 996 and older Porsches. Hell, even on the drive up to Rennsport Reunion along the 101 I only had one person wave back in spite of running into at least two dozen 911s.
