Go look at Mooty's latest thread in the GT3 subforum for a picture of his Signal RS with black wheels. Stunning car.

Different but still looks too much like the color of a NYC taxi for me to pay that much $$ but I guess why they call it PTS.

Hi folks,

Here are some sample shots of Saffronyellow which I have taken at our local Porsche Centre earlier today; they received the panel yesterday. The other panel is Racingyellow. Saffronyellow is a deep, saturated yellow, with a golden hue.

Three shots have been taken under spot/neonlight, one in the showroom with a racingyellow Boxster as comparison; the sun just came through the windows.

According to the salesperson, this color should - however - only be eligible for Turbo S / Turbo. Whether or not this comes on GT3 he did not know.

Best
Tobias

The more I see about it, the more I think I really like it. I mentioned earlier that it reminds me of my bicycle. These samples seem to back that up for me.

The mica or metal flake in that sample is strong under bright lighting. I like the hue a lot better than Racing Yellow--more golden and richer. I wish it was available on other than Turbo models.

Default Mica vs normal metal flakes...

Tom:

As you may know, 'Mica' and
the stock 'metal' flakes used
in standard metallic automotive
paint are different.

We don't yet know exactly how
Porsche's paint suppliers have
formulated the new 'Saffron',
but my guess is that it contains
the smaller crystalline silicate
'Mica' to create a pearlized paint.

So far what we know is what the
press release from PAG has told
us:

https://newsroom.porsche.com/en/prod...ons-13535.html

And we know that other auto
companies have been succesful
offering these types of pearlized
paint, including Ferrari with its
'Giallo Triplo Strato' paint:

***
Still, we don't know if 'Saffron'
will have the look of the new
state-of-the-art paint finishes
like the one Acura has innovated
on its new NSX model. I talked
about this on another thread:

'Valencia Red Pearl'. They refer to
this special paint as 'Chromatic Art':

The 'special magic sauce' here seems to be the
ANDARO® paint technology developed by PPG &
which Acura is using on these two 'Pearl' colors.
PPG is obviously very proud of its product:

http://www.ppgautocoatings.com/Produ...s/ANDARO®.aspx

*
And Acura is equally as excited to be using it:

"Andaro® is a nano-particle aerospace innovation
applied to the NSX to create automotive art — the
ultimate supercar finish. Its pure chromatic color
and bottomless layered depths are incomparable.
"

It also benefits the Acura from a 20 hours paint
process that individually paints & hand-finishes
each NSX. That includes:

"Multi-step preparation leads to e-coat, two coats
of primer, five coats of basecoat and two layers of
clear coat before 16 hours of in-process curing.
Once cured, the entire car is hand-sanded and
wiped down, and given another two layers of clear
coat. In the case of Andaro paint, there are several
additional layers of nano-particle clear coat applied
throughout the process.
"

"Each car is then individually inspected by the paint
team, and a wave-scan tool objectively measures
the texture of the surface to ensure there are no
imperfections — even those not visible to the human
eye. The result is lush, layered color with translucent
shine and depth, for a dynamic effect that accentuates
the car’s architectural lines and contrasting surfaces.
Engineers call this “color flop,” and the result is striking,
fluid beauty that shifts from angle to angle.
"

*******************************************
As to the question 'Can you PTS in a color like that?'
Porsche could if it wanted to. Porsche employed BASF
(Glasurit) & used their super expensive 'Liquid Metal'
paint process for the 918. But at a high price! And
it could ask PPG to create an Andaro® paint process
similar to what Acura is using for these new Pearl colors.
Who knows...perhaps the new 'Saffron Metallic Pearl'
is this, or similar, technology!

But keep this in mind, Porsche is not going to invest
in a new paint technology just to create a PTS color
like 'Nouvelle Blue Pearl' to satisfy the request of
one picky customer!

So in short, the most probable answer to your question
is....'Nein, you will likely not get a PTS color like that!'

For any interested parties, Saffron has appeared on the UK configurator for me as of today for the turbo[S] (wasn't there yesterday AFAIK). Option price is 6312 GBP - over three times the price of the 'special colour' options for the same cars.
