Guards Red is here
Took delivery today. Went from weeks of inaction at port in Germany to a relatively quick boat trip across the Atlantic to fast port processing in Rhode Island and quick turnover at my NY metro dealer. Surprised to have it and very excited.
Some initial impressions:
Ready to leave the dealership
Tucked in at home with its M2 bunkmate
Some initial impressions:
- it looks amazing in person--recognizable as a 911, but very purposeful, modern, and motorsport in appearance
- significantly wider than my former GT4, but doesn't feel large or unwieldy from behind the wheel
- builds speed very quickly and effortlessly, but doesn't insulate you from that speed like a big German sedan would
- no AM radio (so no 1010 WINS for us New Yorkers)
- you sit nice and low, with excellent headroom--I'm 6'2" and will have plenty of helmet clearance
- the details are fantastic in real life--the hood vents, the black side sill extensions, the real, functional rear diffuser
- initial build quality seems really solid--it feels like a $200k car
- the updated nav/radio/PCM and gauges are light years ahead of what they were in the GT4--well done
- looking forward to many happy miles in this amazing machine

Congrats and good luck with the car! Red looks great on these IMO, also like your mirror mod to get in under your lift (really to just look at the car?! )

Nice, I love it in guards red. Interested in your thoughts coming from your GT4 as you get more miles and track time. Enjoy!

Totally. And I’m not red car person at all. I usually lean towards blue, but finally got to see almost every color and I really do think the design lends itself very well to red. I saw both Shark and Guards at the same time today, and GR won in my humble opinion. It’s bold, while looking aggressive. Something about Shark made the car feel more toy like and less “serious”. Maybe too much so. It’s a bright nice blue for sure. Just didn’t give the right feel.

Thanks--I agree. Seems to match the more aggressive look of the 992.
Would likely be stunning on the RS.
Thanks!
Thanks. I wasn't expecting the 991 to show its age, but I guess it has been around for 7 years now.

Thanks! A couple of other tidbits:
- For various reasons I didn't spec front axle lift. So I was concerned that the dash toggle switch for it would be a blank or dummy switch in my car. But instead they just entirely eliminated that switch position--it's seamless and you wouldn't know that another toggle could be there in a car with FAL. Well done!
- The inside of the rear glass was dirty/hazy from transport, etc., so I cleaned it today. I'm used to the GT4 where you just lift the rear hatch to get to the back glass. In this car, with the fixed carbon buckets, I could barely squeeze into the back with the passenger seat fully up and forward. Cleaned the glass and then unfolded myself out of the car. Once the rollbar is in, forget it! Cleaning will involve some kind of homemade broomstick with a microfiber cloth stuck to it!
- Started the car this morning for a drive and noticed a blue engine/temp warning light on the left side of the instrument cluster. The icon looked like possibly a low coolant level warning. Thankfully I did some research before trying to top up coolant, and realized it's the "engine is cold, so drive conservatively until it reaches temperature" warning light. Didn't have this in my GT4, so had never seen it before. Might have also been in the 991 GT3 and RS, so people coming from those cars will be used to it.
