997 and 991 GT cars for sure needs FAL. But I optioned my 992 GT3 with it and I never once used it after I knew my clearance was so high vs the older cars, so I didn't option my GT4RS with it, only minorly scrape occasionally, but my 992 never scraped.

While it may be worth less to you and some others,
FAL is certainly not worthless.
Its an option not standard equipment for a reason.
Not everyone needs it.
I use FAL every time I use my 911 GT3 because my environment requires it. If I didn’t have it my front lip would scrape
every time I entered and exited my garage. The gps function is very useful as it means I only press
the FAL button to lower it after the front clears and to avoid scraping the rear diffuser.
Without FAL I would always scrape the front twice a day at the very least.
Just my experience.

older thread resurfaced. maybe search function does work sometimes...
use it all the time for my driveway as well and other approaches when i'm not sure or are able to enter/exit at an angle. id rather lift the front when im unsure then find out by a scrape. i'll likely add some sliplo as well for added protection. scrapes of any kind are a pet peeve of mine.
i did recently read that we should lower the front after parking, like in the garage overnight. i've always done this and forget sometimes but gtk. have it on my 992 tts and ordered on my incoming gt3t.

My GTS scraped getting into my office 9/10 times and was a challeng to go slow due to traffic.
At my summer house it would if I didn't do gymnastics entering at odd angles. Not an incline, tracked out cobblestones...
GT3 with FAL doesn't scrape front or rear either place. I bet I could survive without it. But when i hear my friends touring scrape into my driveway I'm glad I have it

I use it all the time in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I'm happy I have it.

Only on RL is a useful item like FAL considered worthless and expensive, yet CXX drivel like painted seat belt inserts and vent slats considered wonderful and worth the astronomical price.
I always spec FAL to load onto trailer, and it’s peace of mind when driving unfamiliar terrain. Plus, be prepared to be pummeled on resale if it’s not on the car. It’s a must have on used car market for most buyers

i have the 992 RS without FAL. the front valence is actually higher than my previous 991.2 RS. i didn't need it, gets up and down my driveway at an angle with no problems
when i had the 991.2 RS i felt like i pushed FAL all the time... i could have driven at an angle and been ok without it. one time even with FAL i scraped the bottom of the plastic, no big deal, can't really tell as its plastic down there.
now if those pieces were carbon fiber - MUST HAVE FAL. but its not.

This is my philosophy. Plastic bits are disposable and cheap. FAL is just another thing waiting to go wrong and doesn't add that much extra clearance to be worth the headache. You're going to replace the plastic bits with or without FAL if you're actually using this car.

Those plastic bits may be replaceable.
But they aren't all that cheap anymore compared to just a few years ago.
My 981 GT4 was a lot lower at the front end than my 992 GT3 and it was fairly easy to scrape.
The 992 GT3 is a lot "higher" but I still wind-up using the FAL on entry/exits to shopping centers more often than not
given the sharp elevation of the street gutters in my area relative to the camber of the roadway. It's nice to have!

I have to use the FAL to get into and out of my driveway without scraping in the front. Using it does not cause scraping at the rear.
I also have to use it for various speed bumps in my area, and various driveways for restaurants or businesses, etc. And with all those cases, haven't scrapped the rear at all. I regularly encounter driveway aprons pitched too sharply to get in and out without scraping unless raised.
So for me, it's not worthless at all.
