Default Throttle response delay on 6MT

When I’m driving and slowing down and go to down shift and blip the throttle, there is a delay or utter lack of response, I jab the throttle and nothing happens.

So I’m still breaking my motor in, so I thought this was an issue of perhaps the run in tune which would be alleviated once run in is complete, but then I was watching a throttle house video today and one of the guys mentions the same exact issue, so I’m wondering if anyone out there has noticed this, I hate it and it’s making me keep the auto blip on which I wish I didn’t have to do.

No delay here. What rev range are you in when driving and down shifting?

I have felt it only when the car is warming up & it’s in normal mode. After 190 it’s perfect. I start my car and let it warm up almost every time and drive in sport mode.

I think what op is trying to say is that when he turns off auto rev match, the car won’t let him blip the throttle past 3k rpm.

Are you saying that you start your car, let it idle, to warm up? If you do, stopped this practice immediately.

Start car. Put on seat belt, sunglasses, adjust HVAC, let motor come off high idle (about 75 seconds) and drive off. Keep below 4k rpm till oil hits 180.

Actually just learned this exact same protocol from a master engine builder of flat 6's who is very well known. Basically dont let car warm at idle sitting.

Not during warm up. Car is warm, I turn off auto blip, and when I’m driving and I attempt a downshift, the engine doesn’t respond to my throttle input.

I don’t idle to warm it, start it up, let it finish the cat heat cycle, and off I go, just don’t over rev until until she’s up to temp.

Are you on the brake at the same time (heel/toe)? This should work fine, but timing is more critical. It may be that you are downshifting in an unconventional way (with respect to timing or blipping situation and the computer thinks you are doing something other than downshifting).

You didn't answer the question. What rev-range are you typically driving in? I just hope you are not lugging the motor.

On a fairly short drive to work today, I tried to reproduce, without being too disruptive in traffic. Please excuse my less than technical description that follows. I would say that early throttle application is less responsive than you might expect during early throttle application (early throttle travel, not early in time). If you do not lift (not a realistic a braking situation), then you can blip the throttle without issue. It is almost like there is a little initial travel in the throttle before full engagement. It is a little weird and definitely makes heel-toe more difficult.

The auto-blip works great if you can train your brain to not lift at all. Decades of muscle memory can be tough to overcome though, and even modest lifting on the throttle makes for a less smooth shift. Maybe it is somewhat related to this feeling of a little initial play in the throttle. Hopefully, somebody more knowledgeable and articulate can take from here...

I have this happen to me on several occasions. I’m not lugging the motor, it happens when I down shift to second gear making a left or right turn. No throttle response, feels like the car is idling and then approximate 2 to 3 seconds the throttle responds. I mostly drive in sport mode (auto blip off) no check engine light, even have the dealer check in to it (no error codes).
It is very annoying, literally no power.

Same here. Typically on deceleration, turning right or left, downshifting from 3rd gear to 2nd gear. Engine basically chokes and for a second and then pow its back. I thought it was me. Doesn't happen all of the time but often enough.
