Default PPF on headlights?

I was wondering if anyone has put ppf on there headlights I have heard that it might be a problem when taking it off that the light housing might delaminate. Anyone deal with this issue? Thanks

Yes, they can delaminate during removal. However, if you don't film, they'll chip. Which means you'll need to replace lenses. If they delaminate, that can be fixed. Wet sand. Polish. Reapply PPF and you'll be good to go for many years going forward.

If removed with steam should not be an issue. I've done it to my last two GT3s with no issues. Better than chipped up headlights.

Numerous GT3's have ppf on lights now... agree with the previous posters.

This. I’ve had the headlights on my 992 GT3 ppf’d twice already.

First time the installer screwed up & left bubbles & streaks in the film. I didn’t trust them to remove it so I used my wife’s clothes steamer & removed the film myself. PPF came off no problem at all, but I went extremely slow and pulled at a small angle. Took me about 30min per headlight.

Second PPF install went much better.

I know this is a contested topic, nor is it an answer to the OP’s question. But I don’t think it’s a forgone conclusion you chip the headlight.
I’ve never chipped a headlight. Probably an aggregate 80,000 miles over the years in these track cars. Maybe I’m just lucky.

I’ll probably have to try this now that I’ve jinxed myself

Dealer can void warranty on light if ppfd. If you have matrix it can be expensive if something goes wrong

I’m not talking about a chip that spreads like a windshield/glass crack. I’m talking about peppering. If you walk out to your car that doesn’t have PPF on the headlights and turn on your headlights there’s going to be a bunch of incredibly small dimples. On a higher mileage car, it’ll feel similar to sand paper from the uneven texture. But again, just my experience, everyone’s experience may vary.

exactly. If there’s an issue with your headlight and you try to fix under warranty, Porsche can void if it has PPF.

My sales guy with 30+ years servicing an selling Porsches told me Porsche WILL NOT warranty headlights with PPF.
About 20% of those with PPF will craze from the installer applying too much heat.

I've also "read" (forums) dealer will void some claims where "window tint/film" is applied. I believe due to the fact that door parts would have had to have been removed, etc.

Like all aftermarket additions in the US anyway, I suspect the light failure would have to be linked to the aftermarket part. ie. The film created too much heat or ??

I will say 991 headlamp casings have not held up well at all. Mine need reconditioning and the car has only 23K miles on it. This is a lot less expensive than paying for the full headlamp including intervals however…
