Driving the GT3T back to back with my GTS
Finally getting some road miles in and a chance to compare my GT3T to the '16 991.1 GTS in the garage. First off big shout out to Porsche of Santa Barbara. Allocation 11/22. Delivery 3/23. Only a month behind schedule which based on previous purchases isn't bad. Car sold at sticker with no ADM to a long time customer. Just how it should work! I was pleasantly surprised. No hard sell add-ons and they didn't try to get my old car for a ridiculous low ball price. In and out of the finance manager's office in 5 minutes. First class dealership experience.
Now the drive. I was ready for the worst. CA roads are horrible right now after all the rain with potholes and loose gravel everywhere. My first longer drive was to get it 90 miles home from the dealer and my son and I thought it was relatively comfortable, even discovering when I figured out how to get to the tire pressure monitor that one of the front tires had been overinflated to 45 PSI at the dealership.
I couldn't wait to drive it back to back with my GTS. Clutch pressure is WAY lighter than the GTS but the clutch take up is more touchy/notchy probably just because everything is new. Ceramic brakes are way better than the steels on the GTS. I tried to bed them in on the long road home which was a little nauseating. Engine sound has to go to the GTS, so far at least, as I have not gotten to wind the GT3 up to 9k. The deep rich intake noise of the NA 3.8 is intoxicating. Handling. Both are supremely planted through the turns. Just replaced the original P Zeros on the GTS with PS4S and they are perfect for this car. SPASM makes a big difference with the GTS. Comfort. Both very comfortable for a 2 hr or less drive, but I can't really imagine a longer road trip in the GT3 or having to pull off the road for a nap. I worry a little about my old back if it gets worse and the sport buckets, but for now they are fine after you hop over the hump. 18 ways in the GTS are definitely more useable. Electronic interfaces in these new cars are way too much IMHO. Just shut them off and drive.
In short GT3T is an event and a drive to look forward to, but the GTS is also really really good. Either will be a great drive up to Rennsport.

non-porsche people: each 911 is the same, right?
porsche people: so let me tell you why the turbo chassis is so good, the Gt3 is so different...
911's are the really fit girl next door with baggy clothes. all the good stuff is after you peel back the layers.

The 991.1 GTS and 991.2 GTS are very under rated - fantastic all rounders.

Interesting, I also had the 991.2 GTS (Guards) with SPASM and RAS (RWD) - I agree it was a tremendous 911, fantastic daily.

Beautiful combo! For as great as the Touring is (both the 991.2 and 992 generations), I think, paradoxically, driving the Touring daily makes me appreciate my 991.1 GTS (PDK and cab) even more. It is just so fun and easy to drive. So fun, in fact, that I am driving it from LA to Nor Cal tomorrow morning for three days of golf. It's a lot easier to get two sets of clubs in the GTS than it is in my Touring with buckets. Driving along Big Sur with the top down will be epic. And chewing up miles between LA and San Jose tomorrow will be a comfortable and quiet, 6-hour breeze. The GTS is the ultimate Swiss Army Knife. The Touring, a surgical instrument, meant to slice and dice until your hands are chafed.
Here's hoping you are now seeing why I have suggested to you, all along, that you hold on to the GTS in your garage.

GTS really is a sweet spot- the newer ones have a ton of torque over the old ones but that 3.8 GTS motor (now the GT4 engine basically) has been really strong and useable.
the steering on the 992 is so so good though- and the extra power is hard to quantify until you're really up top in the revs.
the tough part about comparing Porsches over this type of drive is that you're babying the new one and it is very hard to extrapolate how good these things truly are if you're stuck under 4500 rpm

Congrats on the Touring!
Comparing the 992 to anything pre break-in is apples to oranges. My uncle has a 2016 GTS as well and it's an amazing car, but the GT3 is a different level all around. You won't be giving the sound battle to the GTS once you hit 9k in the GT3.
Looking forward to your thoughts after the Touring is broken in and you can actually experience it's full range.

Yeah, I'm still making my way through the "break-in" period and my shifts have consistently been around 5500.
Cant even begin to imagine the "shriek" and power of this car when I can finally get it to 9000!
Even so, the GRIP and turn-in that this car commands is absolutely insane!
Thank goodness it finally stopped raining here and the sun is back out.
Time to do some driving!

^^Thanks for the kind words guys. I remember Matt you telling me to keep both....sage advice. It really is such a good pair for enthusiast driving duties. Might have been better to have ordered a PDK in the GTS if the wife has to drive it in a pinch but the manual transmission is so much fun in both. I can't think of another car I'd rather have except maybe a V12 Ferrari. Still waiting for CJ to open a horsey dealership.

We all have the same cars! I have a 991.2 targa GTS my absolute favorite. it’s no GT3T but it does the job really well and still gives me that fun factor just running errands (as well as a little sunshine)
I was able to keep my M2CS for some throwback driving which is so much fun. I’ve always wanted to add a Ferrari but I wanted cars I could just hop in and change up day to day in the stable.

I came out of a 992 Turbo S and into the 992 GT3 Touring. I'm curious to hear your opinion once the GT3 is fully broken in.
