If it’s such a purists’ car why only build 1963 of them? I’ve become tired of all these special models they build no one can get, and if somehow you do get an allocation, you have to pay huge ADM and addons.

Hmm, why build 1963 units? Remember what year 911/901 was released? It was in September 1963.

Well look on the bright side. We might have another $15k interior to choose from and over priced watch to match. Lol

Another "Special" model that will be the most expensive 992 yet, starting at $ 300K. But a regular guy, even if they are willing to pay, can't get one. These are for Celebrities, Soical Media Influencers and Sports Stars, the image cars. Promote the brand, and interest someone to just buy a "regular" 911. I think it's dark marketing and distasteful, and to me - a lifelong enthusiast - it dilutes the brand instead of building it up. And should the stars align and one becomes available somewhere, its double the sticker price. Ugh.

@drcollie it's not dark marketing. It's capitalism. Distasteful? Yes, capitalism lends itself to being distasteful.

As for the car itself, it's superb. The pinnacle 911 the same way the 911R is/was when it was introduced. This car is even better. And yes, it sucks that it'll be rather unobtainium. However, 2k units is about the same number of GT3s that were produced back in the 2000's. It's not like it's 500 units.

"Porsche is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the 911 with a special edition built for maximum driving enjoyment"

"the omission of rear-axle steering"

Well that settles that...

I really don’t understand Porsches intent with these special cars. They could sell a lot more of them at high price points, and they would be very profitable as they are just shuffling around parts from other models.

Instead they limit production, so the cars only end up with either the 918 club, dealer owners only to surface a year or 2 later with massive markups. Porsche doesn’t get anything from this markup.

Nearly 2,000 units is pretty good supply for something like this. What’s the problem?

So my GTS is basically a 911 ST.

My query wasn't about the relation of the number to Porsche's history. If you read their marketing, it's a purists' car so obviously let's not make any.

It’s already been established by T owners that they have the ultimate, purist 911. The T-ethos cannot be disputed. You don’t need more than 379HP either.

If only Porsche would fix that horrendous UFO rear end. It’d be perfect.
