Default Just removing OPF vs. long-tube headers?

So I finally got my RS. Not sure whether it's worth writing a review, since there are so many already, but the car absolutely surprised or even startled me in a positive way, and that's after daily driving a GT3/RS for almost all of the last 10 years and racing very raw and engaging cars.

One thing that I immediately wanted to improve, though, was sound. It's great but it's like coming through a blanket. I think it's because it's coming through OPFs. So I'm set on getting rid of OPFs. I don't want to bother replacing the whole exhaust system because I like how it sounds in general and don't care enough about saving a few pounds there, so I think it's either just removing OPFs or replacing the headers with long-tube sport-cat or decat ones.

What's the latest status on sound and power differences between just removing OPFs or going with headers + stock muffler? I'm sure some here have done their research so I just want to avoid retracing those steps. Appreciate any thoughts or info.

I have a GT3 and put on IPE headers and exhaust. It sounded great, but 4k rpm and up under heavy throttle was brutally loud. Basically after 30 minutes in the car you were guaranteed a headache. I went back to the stock headers with OPF removed and its not quite as loud and still sounds great.

Did you catted headers or catless headers?

I was actually kind of disappointed when I got the 992 GT3 after having the 991.2 RS. I got the Dundon set for my original 992 GT3 because it was just too muffled in the original form; I opted for their quiet version and this rectified the problem without being ear-splitting loud. When the RS allocation came up I had to trade in a car, and it was a choice between my 991.2 RS and the 992 GT3 - and the 992 GT3 went because it was too refined even with the exhaust and the 991.2 RS is just an experience car (I had the GMG full exhaust on this car)

Although, right now, I don't even have complaints about the sound in the 992 RS, the car is just so amazing in every other way that I don't even feel the rush to mount my dundon exhaust to it (I kept it from the 992 GT3 because it should fit right on).

I'll probably get dundon headers with stock muffler, if they make a version that fits on the stock muffler. Just gave my daughter a ride, and her remark was - why doesn't it sound like a racecar if it looks like one? I like how it has no drone at all, unlike 991, and the engine sound is more "pure" because of that, but it's just so muffled.

I think the stock headers have 600 cell cats. The IPE have 200. Anything less, cell wise, would be basically catless.

I'm going with full dundon headers and mini crack pipe on my 992 RS when winter is over. I can't stand stock sound unless you're 7k+ rpm. That is what Porsche engineers want you to hear and Its glorious. Below 4k is what governments want you to here! And when have they ever been right 😂
