992 GTS to GT3, 100k difference?
#31
I’m in a similar situation as I have a high msrp GTS that I’d like to trade in. What should I be aiming for? Also, I see people post on RL to aim for 20-30k over on a GT3 but I’m not seeing those numbers. What should I be pushing for there?

I'll provide my own data point (that I posted in another thread). This was from a few days ago.
I just traded in my GTS ($178k sticker) for a 2023 GT3 with a $226k sticker, non-CPO since it wasn't from a Porsche dealer. The new GT3 had a few changes to it that made it ostensibly more valuable: the previous owner had swapped out the 18-ways on the window sticker for a set of bucket seats from his 992 GT3RS (same color stitching) and had a front PPF done. So all in, I think it was "worth" approx. $230k sticker.
I paid $274k for it ($44k over), but received MSRP for my 992 GTS, which was about 20-25k higher than the trade-in offer I was getting from other dealerships. So in my mind, effective ADM was about 25k. Not the best, not the worst.

I had a '16 GTS that I was going to sell when my GT3T came in. Fast forward a year and they are both sitting in the garage. Everytime I say I think I better sell one my wife says 'why are you going to do that?'. I made sure she saw the GT3 at BJ auction that sold for 30 or 40% above sticker. Both are manual tranny so I don't have to worry about anyone 'borrowing' them.

Objectively no but this isn't an objective purchase is it? When you drive do you constantly think about how much you paid for the car? For me once I buy the car I consider that money gone and the car worth $0. I don't ever want to be in a situation where I have to constantly worry about putting miles on the car. Life is too short to worry about stuff like that. Buy it. Drive it. Enjoy it.

The Wine Analogy
I was once a younger guy who was adamant " I will never pay more than $30 for a bottle of wine" well life has been good and I can now afford a $100 bottle or more. Life presents the opportunity to try wines at all price points. And yes you learn there are some incredible wines at $50 or $80 or more ++ dinner . And then the quality of that experience is special and you think about that great bottle at the next dinner. Fact is you can buy $100 ++ wine and your net worth is unaffected but your quality of life and enjoyment with others is enhanced. Spending the money on these GT cars will not move the needle on your net worth or final estate valuation. Buy the GT3 for $250k and sell it for $225k after many miles, so what, you will lose more on your suv's. life is special and life is short and GT cars are special!, this is not that hard.
