992 GTS to GT3, 100k difference?
Hi there, first come to here, looking for some advise.
I have a 22' 992 gts, RWD coupe, pkd, under 3k miles. Recently got caught by a gt3, same model year, manual, under 6k miles. After driving the gt3,I love it, especially for NA engine high rev sound and stick shift.
Now come the question, my gts has about 20k options while gt3 has about 50k options. The dealer asks for ~100k difference (gt3 value minus my gts trade-in). Is it worth of upgrading? AND most importantly how could I persuade my wife to upgrade? She apparently is not happy with I changed car every few years, although I could promise gt3 probably is the end

Hi, man. I had the same situation with you a month ago. I traded in my 2023 GTS, 1.5k miles, pdk. And got a fully speced GT3 with a sticker price close to 250k (not a pts), and I ended up with a 130k difference. Gt3 feels 100% different from the GTS. I'm happy for the upgrade.

Can’t help you with the wife part…surely she has some sort of hobby or vice that costs money too that you don’t quite understand. Mine figured out long ago not to worry about my car addiction. I like to joke that I had a sports car when she came and ill still have a sports car when she leaves
As for the car. I would take that trade. I traded in a 22 C2S and it came out close to 100k difference. I completely forgot about that difference before leaving the service road of the dealership. GT3 is a better car in every single way other than cost.
Life is short, you can die tomorrow and if you have the finances then may as well enjoy them. Can’t take the money with you when you take the big dirt nap.

Hello. I was recently in a GTS allocation until the perfect GT3 touring CPO came up and i jumped.
Let me tell you how happy I am that I made that decision. There is nothing like a GT3. IMO, it is one of the best, most enjoyable sports cars ever made.
I"m guessing with 20K in options on the GTS, you have a base price of around 170ish? And the '22 GT3 with 50 in options has a base of 210-215k?
I'm assuming this is a non-touring. So the diff. in MSRP is 40-55K?
I think 100K is way too much. Either charging you a massive premium on a GT3 or killing you on resale on your current 911. I of course am no longer in the market but am still getting calls on GT3 cars that I inquired about a few months ago. One in fact, was asking me 50K over msrp at the time on a non-touring gT3 that had 11k miles on it, and called to ask me a couple weeks ago if I would be willing to buy it at msrp.
I think you should def negotiate on price. Unless of course you really love the spec of that GT3 and the extra money is not that big of a deal for you.
Good luck!

Maybe a 996 Cup car? I’d argue the GTS is better than a GT car for street use and a Cup is better than a GT car for track. Keep the GTS and use the $100k you would have spent to upgrade towards a 996 Cup, F150 and trailer. You’ll have $ left over from that $100k to take your wife on a fancy vacation.
Yes, operating costs are higher with a Cup but maybe not as high as you’d think if used in same manner as you’d use a GT street car for track use. Fast driver friends of mine are running 2:15’s at Sebring in a 996 Cup. That’s way faster than most decent drivers can do in street GT cars. I pass most street GT’s at Sebring in my recently acquired 996 Cup and I am not yet running 2:15’s.

Thanks for sharing! I am glad to hear you are happy with the upgrade, I believe I will too if I could upgrade. The hard part for me is to get wife approval. She is the kind of person that would buy a Toyota and only considering change when it's broken, so hardly understand what gt means. It's a headache.

Finally a topic I can contribute to!
I've been tracking my '23 GTS for the past year since it came in- made the spec expecting to track, while also hauling around my twin 5 year olds... so RWD, Sunroof delete, PDK, rear steer, but club leather, bermeister etc....
I did 16 full track days on it after adding camber plates, slightly wider tires, M engineering tune, and titanium straight pipes. It's a MONSTER on track, I was setting fantastic times on Catalyst and having a blast. I regularly mocked my buddy who traded in his 4s for a GT3 at a similar cost to you...
Then the last track day of the year he let me do a full session in his car. Both cars on F1R tires of the same width, same track same day I literally hopped out of my car hot for a session in his... best side by side comparison ever. I was screaming and cursing on the warm up lap because I was so, so, so very wrong.
The GT3 is special. Every bit of feedback you receive is enhanced. I ended up only being maybe .5 seconds faster in it that session, but even if it was 2 seconds slower it would have still been a done deal.
I emailed my dealer the next morning and got extremely lucky... traded the GTS in... GT car on the way in June.

In my experience the only ones who say the GT3 is not worth the jump are those that have not experienced one. They are truly magic in how they connect with the driver and make you feel when pushing the car
