Default 9’ ceiling

I have 2 911’s each 52 inches tall with 9 foot ceilings. Has anyone made that work with a lift. Thanks

My garage ceiling is 9' 4" and I can't stack both of my 911s. Only a Boxster underneath and a 911 up top. See my second pic on post #2. I'm sorry but that is not going to work for a couple of reasons.

There is about 4" for the thickness of the lift that the top car sits on. You also need at a minimum one inch to raise the lift to remove the locking mechanism for the lift before lowering. You also can't perfectly set where the locking mechanisms latch (6" intervals). They are adjustable but I couldn't get mine perfectly to allow the 911 on the bottom while allowing another 911 on top. You also need some minimum clearance when you put the bottom car in. In most garages, the car is going in at a slight angle due to the garage floor declination. It also hops up a bit if you have a lip to get over while entering the garage.

As a sidebar, your 911s are likely just over 50 inches not 52. It wont matter anyway. It's just not feasible with a 9' ceiling.

One other thing to consider for garages with low ceilings. There is a very real possibility of inadvertently pushing the top car through the ceiling. It's easy to get complacent while raising the car and waiting for the sloth like motion as it rises. I've thought about putting stops in mine somehow but haven't yet. I placed painters tape on the post closest to the operator to remind me where to stop raising it.

I bought a challenger lift this year, it’s been trouble free so far. CL4P9S. I do think it’s made in China, but so are Bend Paks.

+1 for challenger, it doesn’t require a compressor and comparatively easier to operate, also accommodates jacks. I have space for 4 lifts but I’m installing 2 in the back for now, so I can fit 6 cars in the garage. The ceiling height is around 11’

Try that to play around with some measurements for your ceiling and car's height. Not sure how accurate it is, however, it should give you a target.

I, too, have 9'4" ceiling like @subshooter and have not pulled the trigger on a lift (yet), just because I would be severely hampered on car height.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the detailed explanation. You confirmed what I had thought. My alternative is to tear half the house down but these cars are important.

I have 9'4" as well. Able to get 991 and 718s stacked in either order. Can throw the Macan on to change tires but def not stackable. I think I could get a 52" car underneath. 56" didn't work.

Bendpak 8k with one rolling jack

Not at the stage of needing a lift (yet), but definitely something we've talked about. Double garage with 11' ceilings should work. Couple of questions:
- We have double garage with ceiling mount rails/motor - do you all move these to front/side mounted?
- Do you ever need to consider the strength of the floor? I'm sure its fine and my garage has deeper concrete footing, but it sits next to a basement where we just had to repair some step down foundation issues in the back.

Interesting comments about where Challenger lifts are made. They may have changed where some of the lifts are sourced since I bought mine 6 years ago. At that time, Challenger made a real point of emphasizing that their lifts were made in Kentucky of US-sourced materials. I just looked at their website yesterday and the American-made statements are gone. The website of a major lift distributor now states that “some” of the Challenger models are still American made—the higher-end commercial scissor lift units as opposed to our more basic consumer 4-posts.

Seems that it’s getting harder and harder to find a true American-made product. For the lift industry, that would be the real high-end commercial units from Rotary and Mohawk.

Yes, I had to change the garage door opener out to a side mount, and they had to change the tracks. That part was more expensive than I thought it would be, but we got a nice opener that I can control with an app, etc. You do need to consider the strength of the floor, but I would imagine most floors on a new home would be fine. The installer should be able to advise you. You do not have to bolt these lifts to the floor/drill into the floor although I did. The lift can move with you to your next home too, although they weigh a lot and I imagine it would be pretty expensive to move.

Bendpak makes tools on their website so you can see fitment. This is a 10.5ft ceiling with obviously a Viper on top and my M8 GC was under it. This was why I went with the autostacker as it's perfect for smaller areas. Buy once cry once.

https://www.autostacker.com/support/height-check/

House now has 20ft garage ceilings and I can put it up to the 5th lock out and even fit the x7 under when we're not wanting to use it.

I have an Atlas Garage Pro 8000 that for the money I feel is a very good buy. And it appears to be the exact same as the comparable Bendpak and probably is made in the same factory and just rebranded.
