Tell them stick their watch up their AZZ and buy a used GT3 or keep your RS.

I searched the forums but couldn't find anything similar on a GT3
Quick story - i had a 991 GT3. Spoke to all my local dealers about getting into a 992 GT3RS. Worked with one dealer who basically said become one of their GT customers by buying another car in the meantime, with the knowledge that when it comes time to trade it back in on the 992 at MSRP, I would take a hit on the trade in value due to the 'equity' I was receiving. Annoying, as I plan on keeping the 992 for a very long time, but I know you've gotta play the game
Traded in my GT3 for a 991 GT3RS. Didn't necessarily want the 991 RS but did what I had to do.
Time's gone by and after having the GT3 and the RS, as well as seeing the 992 RS in person, I decided I preferred the regular GT3. Spoke with my dealer in the winter last year and said I'd prefer to wait for a 992.2 GT3, but would consider the 992.1 if I could still get a PTS allocation. Filled out some paperwork, gave them a couple thousand as a deposit, and waited.
Just heard from them and there's a good chance they can get me a gt3 allocation to be delivered later this year. However... sales guy said ok I'll get back to you on the trade in value, but you also have to buy a watch. I said what watch? He said some personalized gt3 watch to match... to the tune of another $20k (Canadian)
Now if they come back on a reasonable trade in value on my RS I'll consider it, but this just seems like its getting out of hand, especially as the market has been falling. I haven't necessarily kept up on 992 GT3 values, but would assume they are still going for $50k (again, Canadian) over MSRP
Just looking for thoughts and opinions.. I'm already somewhat committed with an RS I don't even want to keep, but don't want to get bent right over either.

Consider your options.
Dunno, doesn't seem that hard of a decision to me.
I mean, it's just a watch at 20k CAN.
Does the 20k CAN provide you more joy than the time behind the wheel of a 992 GT3?
Again, doesn't seem that hard of a decision to me.
But then, you're not me and I am not you.
Good luck with your decision.
1. No GT3 and no watch to worry about.
2. Buy a watch, and get to drive a GT3.

From my understanding PCNA does have a KPI around the watches sold. My dealer did ask me to buy a watch but I got the car at msrp. I figured 11k of an ADM for my RS with a watch to show for it wasn't too bad. I've worn it twice and probably never again lol

Really? Wow, I didn't know that as I thought the US was the only country where dealers weren't prevented from selling their cars over MSRP.

I am in Vancouver so can only comment on what I see here. Porsche Canada is encouraging dealers to sell a watch with a GT car. I am the less than enthusiastic owner of 3 watches for Dakar, GT3RS and Spyder RS. In all fairness, I got cars on a timeline that that I hoped for and I was able to spec my cars to my own needs and preferences with no pressure. Any trade-ins were a bit on the lowside but in the zip code of reasonable - in other words luxury car industry standard. I will forget about the watches sitting in a cupboard when I am enjoying the cars. Nobody held a gun to my head - I wanted to buy cars and the dealer was under some pressure to meet the watch quota. In the real world of give and take I am more than happy.

I am not a watch guy at all, I use an Apple watch. But I ordered the watch that matches my S/T. Wasn't forced but thought it was a cool memento and something I can pass to my kid one day if they're into watches. It will be awesome garage art for many years. A Porsche watch is a cheap ADM, and at least it's something tangible, not just lighting money on fire

I’m surprised there is so much push back against the watch in this thread, especially as I am usually surprised at how accepting of ADMs so many seem to be. I had to buy a watch with my car. I wouldn’t have on my own but as an “adm” it was far more palatable than actually paying over msrp with nothing to show for it. Now if you are trading a car and not getting market value on it, then I would push back on the watch. If you get a fair trade the watch is the best type of ADM in my book.

@MSRP plus a 20k watch to show for it and not just flushing money away with nothing to show for it. No brainer.

This is exactly it. If I just had to buy a 20k watch as 'ADM' I would be more than happy. But I already bought a GT3RS (at the market value at that time) from them in order to get my allocation.. which of course has gone down in value since.
I'll wait to see what numbers shake out to be. At the time the $ difference on market value between my 3rs and a 992gt3 was maybe $60k Canadian. If I have to take a 40k hit and buy a 20k watch, correct I'm happier with that scenario than just a 60k hit on the trade in.
Just a shame they didn't do a better job on the watches. The Dakar and ST watches are kind of cool for the speciality vehicles that they are. The GT3 watch is pretty meh... I am a big watch collector but I don't think this will get any wrist time, outside of a car show perhaps. Maybe if they can PTS the dial ring to match my PTS build ..
appreciate everyones input. At least I know I'm not the only one getting this shakedown
