Default PORSCHE DASHCAM

I see that there is a dash cam available (https://tequipment-finder.porsche.co...2586460068E215) for our vehicles. Does anyone have this installed in their car? Any good or bad thoughts on it? I was considering putting it in more for while the car is parked. If I understand this correctly if it feels any vibrations or the alarm goes off it is constantly recording and then will save the prior 10 seconds and record another 10 after the vibration. Also, if you have this did you install yourself or did you pay to have it done?

Had it installed by my Porsche Centre. I'm not a techie, so it was my best option to have peace of mind in case anything happens. Yes, it is probably overpriced. Yes, it probably doesn't have all the latest features. Like an insurance policy, I hope I never need to review the footage which you can view on the app as long as you're connected to the camera's network. Or you can view it on your computer if you remove the memory card.

Just be careful to get someone who knows their stuff to install it as the car's network and the camera's network tend to clash.

My only complaint is that no rear camera is available (but apparently Audi offers one).

Thank you for your review of this. I can probably install myself but not sure if I can code it or not which isn’t a big deal. I was curious about the option of a rear view one. That would be nice. Does it sit pretty flush by the mirror? Is the video quality good? I’m more interested in it for when the car is parked. I know you haven’t had to use yours (fortunately) but have you tested it to see that it actually records footage when the car is off? I’m wondering if there’s a concern of it drawing anything especially with the batteries that we run.

I have it - the install was crazy expensive - I would just opt for an aftermarket one - this one is not that good.

It looked rather involved but I was going to do myself. If it isn't that good though then its not worth it regardless. What don't you like about it?

It IS rather involved... you need to allegedly drop the headliner for the install. It is quite bulky, and the direction from Porsche is to install it on the left part of the windscreen.... where it interferes with the rearward facing mirror.... In addition, the app it uses is crap.... Try connecting to the device with wifi.... The PCM wants to take your wifi for apple carplay, which means you need to disconnect it each time. The quality is not that good of the imaging... It is just not wirth the $$ for install, and for the unit itself.

Thank you; enough said. I’m out. Sounds like a good idea but poor application.

You don’t drop the headliner. The roof console comes apart. The drivers sun visor and left a pillar get removed. The wire is run across the headliner and down that pillar. Once those parts are out the wire is tucked above the headliner.

My recollection is that you could check the option box for pre-wiring on all builds starting last November.

I currently have this lined up for install at the dealership once my ‘22 TTS arrives at the end of the month. Obviously, it is not prewired like the ‘23. Has anyone had the dealership do this? Notice any issues with headliners, etc, post install? How much is the install?
