Default Turbo S with headers but all else stock?

Hey all,

I’m a porsche tech and enthusiast (have a 996 myself) A customer and friend recently bought a 23 TTS and wants to make it sound a bit better without a big jump in overall noise.

Something we’ve discussed is changing out the exhaust manifolds for possibly Soul, while leaving the rest of the exhaust stock. In theory this could change the tone without actually increasing noise - has anyone done this?

I was going to suggest the easiest and most economical solution is to get the Cargraphic Exhaust Valve controller. But if tone itself is most important, that will require something like a titanium exhaust. Does he want it to sound more exotic I presume?

Do not touch the headers on these cars, there are gains from it. Most cars lose power when the headers are changed.

If you want more noise and turbo sounds. Do BMC air filters and Soul exhaust. Catless Soul exhaust has tons of turbo noise and exhaust note. These cars sound amazing with these mods.

We would recommend doing a set of Soul 992 Sport cats, not headers.

We can get you setup with this system, he will be happy with it. change of tone and volume but not too much.

He’s looking for a more subtle sound; his other cars are aircooled if that tells you anything. Most of the exhausts I’ve heard on these 992 sound the same as stock, just more overall noise. That was the thinking behind the headers - a change of tone without more noise.

I would definitely look into 200cel cats, they will refine the tone without going overboard on volume. We use 200cel HJS cats and have had no issues with drone, or CEL's on these newer turbos.

Nice chunk of HP as well!

Thanks for your input. If sound increase were the goal here, 200c cats would be the immediate answer, but he's trying to make it sound better, not louder. Luckily he is well aware getting these cars to sound more like what hes used to (aircooled) isn't really possible.

+1! John did my car along with M Engineering software.
Makes a nice improvement over stock. One of the best parts is with the
software the valves are open all of the time in Sport/+ mode unless you
decide to close them. Best of both worlds plus the power add is the cherry on top!

Spot on. The valve open feature from M-Engineering really changes the sound all across the range.
